We flew out to New York with Zoom and came back with Virgin for $300 each (thank you Virgin for bailing us out). We paid £250 for each of the Zoom flights with an Abbey visa debit card and I applied last week for a chargeback using Martin's instructions. I was expecting only to receive half the original cost of the flight as they had at least got us there but within 3 working days, we had a full refund of the cost of the return flights.sport-smiley-001.gif So our return flights to New York in peak season have cost us $300action-smiley-033.gif
    Thank you very much Abbey
I think you will find that they are still investigating the claims and they can still ask you for the difference within 12 weeks. So, I wouldn't celebrate just yet.
  • what if we paid for our tickets directly to zoom by cheque?
it cost over £1500 to get 3 of us back from canada, any hope of claiming from anywhere please??

Sorry, but you have zero chance of getting money back. Your flights would be provided by Zoom Incorporated, in Canada. Zoom UK would be agents. Zoom Inc are in Bankruptcy. See earlier post with link to the Doyle Group, who have lodged papers with the court in Ottawa. Paying by cheque gives you no protection, and they have said there is no money for creditors....
  • I have just checked my bank statement, and VISA have reimbursed me in full for the cost of the flights I booked with Zoom back in May '08 using my DEBIT Card

They gave me the runaround, but perseverance paid off eventually, so don't give up!! :j

MBNA are saying that under Mastercard terms I will need to wait until the dates of my flights have passed and I will then receive refund. My flights are not until July 09.
I had al;ready written to Zoom copying them the information from The Doyle Group. I also made a request under the consumer act that they place in the same position as I was before Zooms collapse.
Anybody got any ideas what I can do next ahhhhhhhhh.........

Tell them you want your money now ! MBNA are jointly in breach of contract - this has nothing whatsoever to do with Mastercard. In my case, a Morgan Stanley employee told me that Mastercard was "the Law" - I soon put him right and they sent me a cheque !

These are delaying tactics, the Financial Ombudsman has awarded damages against card companies doing this.
  • If anyone would like to use my template letter to try and get their money back when they have paid for Zoom flights by VISA Debit Card, I would be happy to provide it.......

It sure as hell worked for me!!

    .....Just post a reply.

Thanks for help guys I will use fifi1007s template
  • Received a refund from my credit card company for the cost of the additional flights I had to pay another airline to get back to the UK. However the return flight from Zoom was not credited (half of the original flight). Should I get this under Section 75?
