The x300 is a dedicated graphics card and the other is not.
The x300 is not supposed to be upto much and quite low powered but I would imagine it is better than the shared graphics .

Keeping it simple, the X300 option would be better.
However much mb the graphics card is (most probably 16mb), it will pull that memory off of your ram, so you'll lose that bit of ram processing power. Nothing major though, so if the X300 is going to be a lot more expensive, then dont bother, unless you want to play games (not the newest ones though I'd say)0 -
is this worth the extra £250?

It is a good deal for £750. However, if you don't need the extra power and hard disk space then it isn't worth it of course.
I paid £700 for my Dell (on an offer a while ago). It is an Inspiron 6000, but with specs the same as this Acer, except I got:
Graphics card (better)
M740 (1.73 GHz) processor (worse)
60gb Hard drive (worse)
WSXGA screen (better)
The processor is the big deal as they are one of the most expensive components.
If I were you I'd do some googling on Acer to see if they are a good company reliability and support wise.
Hope this helps you compare!0 -
well I would like a speedy machine as I work with large spreadsheets and have noticed my current desktop starting to get a bit slow (2.7 Celeron, 256MB RAM)
Have spent many hours googling for different PC's. In the same price pracket £800 are the following 2:
SONY FS315M Intel Pentium M 740 Processor 1.73 GHz
533 MHz FSB
2 Mb Cache
512 Mb RAM
80 Gb Hard Drive
Double Layer DVD±RW Drives
15.4" X-Black Display
Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2
128 Mb nVidia GeForce Go6400 Graphics
TOSHIBA EQUIUM M70-173
Intel Pentium M 740 Processor 1.73GHz
533MHz FSB
2 Mb Cache
512 Mb RAM
60 Gb Hard Drive
DVD SuperMulti Dual Layer Drives
15.4" TruBrite TFT Display
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
128 Mb Intel 915GM Express Graphics0 -
Like I say, I have the M740 and I have no complaints.
A 1.7GHz Pentium M will be faster than a 2.7Ghz celeron. But the 2GHz Pentium M will, of course, be faster than a 1.7GHz.
If possible get an upgraded WSXGA screen (the Dell definitely offers it, the others may not) as this will be very useful when dealing with large spreadsheets (I'm sure you can appreciate the screenshots I posted earlier whowing how much room there is).0 -
if moneys tight and you want a high spec laptop then................
the 1.6 chip can be overclocked(400fsb to 533fsb) and omega drivers can make the x300 graphics card perform as well as a stock x600
do your own research if you are gonna undertake either of these.0 -
they call it an "upsell", and my irish lady couldnt have bben more helpful. AS an upsell anybody ought to put it through - their system will do it.0

Right, the offer now appears to be over - there's no 15% coming off when you put the laptop in your basket, and if I try to go to the 15% off webpage in the small business section I get a 'page no longer exists' message. Damn, just as I'd got the answer to the battery question and was about to order.0
