What are you on about?

I upgraded all sorts of things and there were no problems whatsoever. UPS actually lost my laptop in the post and yet I am still here singing Dell's praises as the Indian call centre staff you are so critical of did an excellent job of dealing with the problem.

And the offer hasn't ended, so you don't need to pay any extra.

    Dell - 10/10 :T :T Top company.

I think after 4 failed attempts to purchase a computer from Dell wich they completely c***ed up I think I am justified in my statement that Dell are a bunch of cowboys!!
After finally getting an Irish rep who told me not to bother with their call centre but to deal direct with him and he agreed that their Indian call centre is useless!! I think that says it all

Is it worth upgrading the hard drive to 80gb. I maninly need this laptop for surfing the net but I want it to be fast.

    Thanks
A bigger hard drive means you can store more stuff. It won't make it one millisecond faster though (and unless you store tens of thousands of photos or loads of full-length movies 60gb is perfectly big enough). If you want it faster upgrade the Processor or RAM.

Although, it should be fast enough for what you want (at the end of the day the speed you surf the internet at is dependent on your connection).
  • Thanks ordered one tonight!
  • I upgraded my PRIMARY battery for an extra 10 squid. 4 hours life, well worth it
  • How did you do that - I'm not getting any battery upgrade options, and it's the only thing that's held me back so far?

I ordered a refurn from the outlet, but the dell had a cracked case. I found the irish reps were useless, when I got in touch with Dell again, I got through to the Indian call centre. The lady could not have been more helpful and professional throughout the replacing of the PC

In fact she was so good, I sent an email to her line manager telling him so and that she was a credit to the company.

As said already, you wont find a bigger hard drive makes the laptop faster, in fact, you may even find it gets slower, as the laptop is then having to access that 20gb extra.

If you want it faster, of course upgrading the RAM or processor will speed it up, but you should also consider getting a faster hard drive, as laptops are generally fitted with a 5400rpm drive, so a 7200rpm drive would see a decent increase aswell. In fact, the speed of the hard drive is one of the biggest bottlenecks where laptops are concerned.
  • Whats the difference between choosing the:

    Intel® Pentium® M 725A Processor (1.6GHz 2MB L2 cache 400MHz FSB) & shared graphics memory

    and

    Intel® Pentium® M 725A Processor (1.6GHz 2MB L2 cache 400MHz FSB) & 64MB RADEON X300

    which ones better?
