Managed to use it for custard but there is a limit to have much custard you can eat (is there?) Any ideas welcome or do I have to chuck it??? TIA if you can help........................:D

  • OMG it's only the first of September and this thread is already 23 pages long!!! :D - I've not read through the whole lot - sorry - :o .

Well, I managed to come in under budget for the bbq (only by 73p but still under!) and it was a lovely sunny day too - bonus!!:j

Please could you put me down for £400 for the September challenge.

I've made a good start this week. Had an £8 off voucher if you spend £80 in Tesco so I did an online shop to be delivered today (don't like doing a big shop but it's worth it sometimes if you get this much off!) but I have to say, I struggled to spend £80!! That's a good sign for me!...:D
    Grocery Budget from 24th August to 31st August - £100/Declared at £99.27 :j

A quick question can you freeze natural yogurt is goes out of date today?

Could you use it to make a yoghurt cake? Add a little something else for flavour such as almond essence, a little lemon yest or something.
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!

Shaz mum of 2 how about bottling some of the glut in syrup?
TJ Hughes had the preserving jars in last time I looked and they were only a couple of quid

    Lesleyxx

I did do some plums but not sure if i did it right so a bit nervous about doing more

I used a sugar solution of half sugar to water ie half a pound sugar to pint water simmered the plums for a couple mins in it,then removed to the hot sterilised jars ,reduced the syrup by boiling for about 15 mins ,added some brandy then topping the jars up before putting lids on

    The syrup tasted gorgeous

    Have i done it right??

  • Hello all,

I would like to join this challenge please - this is my last month on a full salary- I'm then dropping to a .6 contract so I will lose 40% of my income

It seemed like a good idea at the time :rotfl: (paid off my mortgage and decided life was too short to work 5 days a week) but since then I've done my figures and am trying not to panic. There are two adults and two dogs - I'm going to aim for £150 this month and won't be buying dog food as I have already stocked up on that. I have no idea what I usually spend but I have just come back from Asda and spent £29.25 already _pale_ . I know what tonight's meal is and that is it :D - must start meal planning.....

Do I need to pm anyone to get on the list? (I do like being on a list:o )

    Thank you
    Sparkly

    Seriously considering one of these

    what do you think ??
I've ordered one this morning, especially at that price :j
If you don't like it you could sell it on Ebay they seem to sell for almost double the price :D

Stay out of the shops - it'll ruin your budget :rotfl::rotfl:
I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

Its just me and my OH to feed and could I be put down for £200 for September? I worked it out that I was bout £235 last month so hopefully minus £35 won't hurt too much!.

I think its the alchol which adds the most.

    Plan is to:

    1. Plan meals for two weeks
    2. Try to empty Fridge and Cupboards
    3. Drink the sprits in the cupboard instead of buying more cider.

    Fingers crossed!

    Evening all

Well the savoury meat roll was nommy nommy nom nom :T and it DIDNT burst either :j ... There is about 1/2 left but hubby has suggested I put it away before he attacks it :rotfl: -but with how frugal it is.. im sure I will cope if he does ;) It tasted just like mum used to make when we were kids :D

Chell -I used to be naff at pastry...now im a whizz (if i say so myself :o :rotfl: ) the knack is to handle it as little as possible
Do you have a bendy silicone spatula?... I used:-
    • 300g plain flour
    • 75g lard
    • 75g i can't believe it not butter -usually its butter, but i didn't want to "waste" it :D
Then I use my spatula and cut the fat in (you can use a knife but i find this much better for getting anything stuck to the bottom of the bowl) when it looks like bread crumbs add
    • 1tsp salt
    • and about 8tbs of ice cold water (you may need to add a drop more)-mixing in with the knife/spatula.. then right at the end use your hand to bring it into a ball -its usually fairly soft-then whack in a bag in the fridge to chill through until you want it
It came out lovely n short -but not clarty and stick to the roof of your mouth :D
I also do it with a bit of dried sage in... or parmesan and mustard powder ;)

Sashanut.. when I have milk that needs using up I have started turning it into white or cheese sauce and freezing it in tubs ;) great for making quick pasta bakes, cauli cheese etc -I have 6 tubs in the freezer :p
I have never Know the milk defrost lumpy though

right...off to update the list and then back off to the knitting.. have a great evening all :D
