Practically every time I go on a train journey there is something to complain about. I don't let it get to me, let alone complain and write about it in detail.

I put it down to his age - if indeed he is 15 - but what good is obsessing over petty details for days/weeks? Far worse !!!! happens all the time and people just get on with it. Whatever happened to stoicism? Better if he could be helpful toward his fellow passengers than putting himself first. I can just imagine the reaction of the train company.

this is his complaint, not yours - and what is seen as petty in your eyes may not be in his eyes - so let him get on with it !

in my eyes you are 'obsessing' over this post

Aside from the general sniping at each other on here has anyone paused to think that if more people did complain about the service on trains then maybe, just maybe, the train companies would do something about it? Like prehaps put extra carriages on to particularly busy routes, take more care about their booking systems (I've lost count of the number of journeys that Ive got on to and the seat reservations system has been 'broken'/they couldnt be bothered with). If you requested a specific seat on a plane and someone else was sat in it you'd be annoyed too. (Dont worry I like it here in cloud cuckoo land)

As for the OP's age unaccompanied minor surely? If you were his parents wouldnt you like to know that he has the seat he reserved (yes I know at 15 you want to be independant but parents will be parents....).

Ive complained several times about the lack of baggage space on trains, as well as the number of people they seem to want to cram on to some long distance services - the same ones with the broken reservations systems usually - and have spent more hours than I would like to count sat on my bergan/suitcase/divebag outside the toilets on long journeys despite having reserved a seat, sometimes I've bothered to complain sometimes I havent (at one point I had an almost standard email saved in my drafts and just had to alter the times and dates :o).

Im only too aware that the luggage issue isnt really down to the train companies but then again they do *somewhere* have a list of the luggage sizes you can take on trains and on a couple of occasions have asked the station staff if they can arrange for my oversized bags to be stored elsewhere on the train for the convienience of other passengers, but it is extremely annoying when people keep their bags on the seats when they would fit in to the luggage spaces or overhead racks.

Whoops just realised how much of a rant that look like.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Yeah, they'd have to put up prices.

A 100% faultless service would cost money. Most people prefer things to be right 99/98% of the time and pay much less. For things never to go wrong prices would probably have to double, because eveything would need to be done again. We'd need new railway lines everywhere that would have to be frequently replaced to guarantee they'd never go wrong. All equipment would have to go and be replaced with new to guarantee a faultless service. So on and so forth.

But then even if companies did this to try and guarantee things would never go wrong would this actually be possible? Something would probably have a fault one day.

Some people seem to think that if they complain or more people complained about things things would never go wrong. That would be the case. Companies would just end up spending money to try and solve problems which would ultimately lead to prices going up.

Sometimes things go wrong, companies know things go wrong and try to fix the problem. You can complain if you want but you won't be telling anyone something they don't already know.
