Sam, I wouldn't listen to the argumentative types that have replied on this thread, it seems people just like to pick apart others just to make an argument.. very sad.

I thought your letter was excellent, and I too would be pretty miffed if it had happened to me, especially the facing backwards as this can make me sick for days afterwards, really messes my balance up too :(

Glad you got a result, well done.

I may have got the six cars thing slightly wrong and it was 5. However you can't go in first class without a valid ticket, as i was told by the conductor on board. Maybe one car has 15 seats unreserved on a 4/5 carriage train but not every one.
My example is the 06.19 (not sure if it still runs cos I haven't been able to find it recently) from Newcastle to Exeter. There were 6 unreserved seats on that full train. I got off before departure and asked a steward where the unreserved seating was and they told me that was it. The conductor clarified this too. So either they were hiding seats up their backside or your lying?!

Coach B is the same as Coach C

I am not looking for an arguement, but £5 is a token amount, Did you specify you want a seat face of directing travel? (You can specify this) The Trainline won't think "Oh Sam needs a front facing seat" and "Oh Bill needs a rear facing seat) they aint simply that smart,

Not sure what the ref to £5 is for, the user talked about 5 carriages.
Fact remains that although you may be quoting what the policy may or may not be, this persons experience in reality and confirmed by the conductor & the platform steward was that there were only 6 unreserved seats on the whole train. So this shows that your position is either wrong or the policy that you are quoting from cannot in reality be relied upon. Simple really.
  • Dont no who you are directing that to edna?

You are quoting lufc girl but then saying about the £5 amount ?? ?

And for the record, I requested a forward facing seat for the same reason as GG mentions. What is the point in having it if "they are not that smart" ??

    Thanks to GG and Wig

Whenever I have reserved a seat, the attendant at the station has said that they do guarantee that a seat will be reserved but cannot guarantee any personal preferences towards seats (i.e window seat or forward facing). So if the gurantee wasn't met through fault of the train company double booking and messing up the reservations, Sam does have a valid reason for complaint. If the train companies can't go through with what they have guaranteed a customer regardless of circumstance, they shouldn't do it, or at least have an adequate policy to compensate the customer.

Several people on here have stated it's a free service. What do you then suggest the compensated amount should be?

Also if it's free then why shouldn't it be offered even if it does go wrong once in a while. Surely it's better than not having such a system. What you saying is just like cutting off your nose to spite your face all in the sake of perfection.
