There are some areas that could be increased. I would contest it and ask if you can submit a new IPOQ as there are things you had forgotton.D

Couldn't see Holidays on there - think you are allowed about £40 a month (maybe more if you have a family - I don't so don't know the amount for kiddies, sorry, but sure someone else on here will).

And Dry Cleaning, I was allowed I think £20 a month for that. You can always try for the internet, especially if you need it for study (should be allowed then) so that's another £15 and you are way below the £100 and no IPA.....

Does the Axa healthcare cover the dentist? We just had to go and it cost us £260 between us for a load of work, so that's another £20 a month....

    Can't think of anymore, sorry.

Thank you all for your help it's greatly appreciated
hopefully this will be over soon

oh 1 more thing I've been informed i may have my car taken off me but it's worth around £500 and i need it to get me to work and son to school, it's half an hour drive
I've wrote a letter to the OR stating why i need my car, and included journey plans if i have to use public transport....if i do I'd have to leave my house at 6:19am in morn and arrive home at 7:00pm, i just can't justify waking my 5yr old son up at that time in a morn..... what do you think my chances are?

    Hi Pen,
Forget the inconvenience,How much more would it cost you to use public transport, taxis etc.
The OR is not bothered about how difficult it may be but if financially it makes sense then you could keep the car.

To be honest if they think they can take a car worth £500 and sell it for that then I think they've lost the plot. They would probably only get scrap value.

I think you would be unlucky or have a pig headed OR if you lost the car.

    Hope all goes well DEz

This happened to me Penny - I managed to keep my car because I also have cherised number plates and my OH purchased them from the OR, which the OR also took to mean the car was included in the money (it's all very confusing and I think I have a new OR now, hence things changing).

To make a very long story shorter I was willing to go to court to protect my car as the guidelines state that any assest (ie a car) should only be taken to assist your estate and NOT as a revenge or punishment - if the car isn't worth very much then you have the first half of a case for it not being taken (you need both halves!)(my car was valued at £0 by the OR's valuers btw). If you need it to get to work (in my case it meant literally running out of the school gates (I'm a teacher) as soon as the bell went, and not going to weekly meetings or parent's evenings, and if I missed that train walking about 10 miles, and walking about 4 miles at any rate along no footpath roads, carrying very heavy books to mark) and it costs more to take public transport then you need it and have the second half and a court *should* rule with you, but it's up to you how far you want to take it. I'm a bit ar*y so was willing to fight all the way, but I had timetables, costs and rules on my job (ie I'm not allowed to take public examination coursework anywhere non secure, so can't take it on public transport) on my side so felt pretty confident in my case.

Sorry I can't be more optimistic on the car front, but it's worth standing up to the OR if they are being really nasty about it, if I hadn't I would have lost my car and had to pay a hell of a lot more for the plates than I eventually did (or my OH did). Equally, if you honestly can't justify the car in terms of cold hard cash, then think about the stress of fighting - it was very stressful and caused me no end of crying fits dealing with it all.

    Good luck :)

Good news on the car front...got home from work and had a letter waitibg to tell me it was exempt and i can keep it.....and they prob recieved my letter today oh well...

I spoke to the lady dealing with me today and told her i need to add to my car repairs and she said she'd already done it as she moved my hobby allowance over as i'm not allowed hobbies, there was something else she said i couldn't have....so I've asked her to send me 'My budget' which she has done so i can actually see what i'm allowed/not allowed she doesn't seem to be budging, but at least i can have a proper look through it
Oh no look on the internet even though i explained about my studying...she said it's a luxury as i could study at a library

thanks again for all your help

Great news about the car :T

I always thought that studying was a ligitamate thing to have the internet listed on your SOA. How far away is the library from you? What are their opening hours? How does it fit in with your work schedule? What sort of study course is it? Who is it with?
