    - If you're getting noticed at avoiding your round, go to the toilet (old tip) but then ring the bar from your mobile and ASK FOR YOURSELF. Then wander back into the bar and chat on the phone (to no-one!) until someone else picks up the round!

You can't be serious about the cake, surely ! Also, the chap in the pub avoiding his round, I am suprised he has any friends to go to the pub with!

It has been suggested to wash-up straight after the washing machine has taken in hot water, as the water doesn't need to run. Unfortunately, all of the cold water you usually run down the drain is in your machine being heated by the large filament. Instead, run the hot tap until it runs hot before switching on your machine. Naturally, save this cold water for cooking/watering plants/etc.

Not in my case as I can choose to heat the water or not and the water is hot as comes out of my combi boiler so by the time the machine is full the water in my hotwater tap is hot enough to run to do the washing up.

This of course will not work for new machines as most of them are cold fill anway so have to heat the water and use so little water that even if had a hot fill the water has not been run long enough to get hot.

And I am on water meter so need I pay for never single drop or water I use so I need to be careful with it.

    Yours

    Calley

Yup, I'm serious about the cake - kids have short memories; when they're old enough to remember, they're old enough to think cakes are no longer cool. (btw, if you follow this tip, don't ever eat the cake! Just keep re-freezing it: once it's been defrosted twice, it's no longer safe to eat.)

I never mentioned it was a *chap*, chinagirl! ;)

:rotfl: Just as well - in this weather it would cost a fortune in heating! But I do prefer to stay in my pjs at the weekend, especially if I'm doing any hoovering or sweaty jobs like that!

At work I have been using paperclips rather than staples they can then be reused - we are also investing in some stapleless staplers (its my company so it does count as me moneysaving I hope), we also use both sides of the paper and make our own note pads too - bulldog clips are great things!
There's a separate thread about moneysaving at work somewhere. I can't remember if it's here or on the small biz board but I can't find it in either place!

Take the bus to work instead of the train or the car and buy a monthly bus pass. Alot cheaper than the train or taking the car for journeys over 15 minutes.
That's a good tip, but it can depend on where you live and needs a little research: I often drive in with my DH but bus or train back.

    Train: single £1.20 return £1.70
Fastest bus: single £1 (with 20 journey ticket, no time limit)
Most convenient bus: single £1.85 (with 10 journey ticket, no time limit)

So if I need to use public transport both ways train is cheapest (and fastest), but can be difficult because the trains are less than hourly. The 'fast' bus lets you buy the multijourney tickets on the bus, but the 'convenient' bus doesn't, you have to go to one of the shops which sells them. You need to be organised and check for your local area.

And yes our buses are extortionate, if you haven't got one of those multi-journey tickets I think the cheapest single ticket is £2!

I wear rubber gloves for cleaning the bathroom & kitchen & because I'm right handed the right glove always gets a hole first. I then turn the left one inside out & - hey presto - it's a right one I use with the new left one from the next pair.
I also save on laundry by washing the bedding every 8 days rather than doing it on the same day each week. Over a year this saves quite a few loads.
I've picked up lots of other old style money saving tips since reading this site so THANKS A LOT EVERYONE. :T
