  • Mbna Was My First Credit Card 7 Years Ago.
I Have Never Been In Arrears And Used The Card Freely.
A Month Ago, Using Aol As A Excuse, they Cancelled The Card With A Balance Of £ 9000 On It And Hyked The Interest Rate Up To 30 Yes 30 Percent.
When I Complained About This They Said They Thought It Was Good Value And Pay Up And Look Happy! When I Phoned Them, Some Joker Actually Said " We Can Charge What We Like 170 % If We Wanted!!"

Am I The Only Person Who Has This Interest Problem With Mbna ( And Incidentally, Alliance And Leicester - Handled By Mbna) ?

I had a Priority Club (Holiday Inn rewards) MBNA card for many years and was delighted with the service I got, whether online or over the 'phone. They even spotted 2 fraudulent purchases and 'phoned me within the hour to query them.
When I wouldn't confirm my details on the basis of an unsolicited call they said, "no problem, 'phone the number on the back of the card."
This I did and they were correct, my card had been cloned and used twice to make fraudulent purchases. The amounts were immediately refunded, cards cancelled and new ones issued. It took less than 5 days to sort out.
Unfortunately they stopped their associaton with the hotel chain so I could no longer stooze reward points, so I stopped using it.
Apart from that I would recommend them to anyone.

Like you I always pay off the card each month so never worry about interest rates. I have an offset mortgage, so I use my credit cards for everything I possibly can rather than using cash or debit cards. That way the money stays in the bank reducing mortgage interest until the cc bill arrives, then I pay it off in full, collect the reward points, and start over again for the next month.
I married my cousin. I had to...
    I don't have a sister. :D

It's now managed by Barclays (I think), so if you want to apply for it again you'll get another 10,000 points ;)

You are not alone they did this to me too.I have never missed a payment and although I didnt clear my balance each month I certainly paid more three times the minimum payment. They reduced my balance from £5000 to £500 and hiked the interest rate to 30%.
I paid it off in full and closed my account with them. They never even had the decency to ring me about reducing my credit limit and I was about to use it for a large purchase.Customer service are crap.
BTW I earn approx £31000 per annum, tesco credit card now have my custom instead of these cowboys.

You are a newbie with them, give them time.

I'm not a newbie with them though - I'm on my 4th (different) card or so and only use them for tarting/stoozing. They make little money out of me apart from the BT fee but have given me a useful limit and each time my card ends, I apply for another, phone them up and ask them to slide the credit limit across. The website's excellent, with more functionality than most and CS are very friendly, helpful and efficient in my experience.

tbh, I tend to find that the credit card board seems riddled with people who've had problems, and not many people bother to tell of their good experiences - that skews the results somewhat and it might appear that 90-odd percent of credit card users are dissatisfied. The truth is undoubtedly that some get a bad deal and some get a good deal - but there's no way to tell which one you'll be until the time comes.

MBNA get the big :T from me.

like i said so far so good im keeping my fingers crossed and there a big firm with millions of card holders who just go from one mbna card to another i value your opinions but when you supply that many card there are going to be problems every so often so i will judge them as i have found them so far

    1. fast delivery of card under a week
    2. good online services
    3. great customer services

but things can change but happy so far
