1. what are they like as a company ie good cust service? - I like them. I've always found them unbelievably helpful.
2. are there statements on time ie you dont miss your payment date as the statement has not got to you? - Yes, never had a problem; however, I suggest you check it online.
3. are there online services good? - Yes, very good. You can see all your cards, old cards are hidden from view. You can make all the requests you need online and even view your pin.
4. what are the credit increases decreases like? - Not been there yet, but they let me have 3 cards before I reached their limit
The BIG bonus is that they have loads of cards available and when you've finished your deal on one, just open another and ask them to close your first one and they'll just slide your credit limit across - I wouldn't suggest doing that the day after though;)You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
thanks long term lurker what credit cards do you own from mbna as i thought or read on here somewhere you could only have one it must have been wrong then!you cant change yesterdaybut you can make tomorrow better0

I usually use the online service, but on the occassions I've needed to speak to someone I've always found them good.
The phone line is 24 hours and is an 0800 number. Both seem to be quite a novelty these days. I had two problems in quick succession caused by their systems.
The first one they tried to take a payment 3 times (admittedly one of the extras was my fault) which caused one to be rejected because it was taking my account into a large positive balance. A returned payment fee appeared on my statement which they refunded with one phone call from me in the early hours of the morning (more convenient for me).
The 2nd was when after I'd done a BT a payment was taken from my bank account but didn't appear on my credit card statement. Obviously I didn't know anything about it until my next statement came with a missed payment fee and a huge amount of interest added. I rang them during the day and got put through to another department who took all the details. A few days later I got a home from work to find a message on my answer phone saying it had been sorted, my 0% reinstated and that all the charges and interest had been refunded. A couple of months after that some residual interest appeared from it but the frontline staff could see the previous problem and fixed it straight off.
2. are there statements on time ie you dont miss your payment date as the statement has not got to you?
My statement date this month was 11th and I've had it just over a week. The payment date is 3rd September. Give or take 2 days for moving weekends that is the case every month.
3. are there online services good?
It's the way I usually deal with them but I only really use it for checking on balances/payments etc.
4. what are the credit increases decreases like?
I was originally given a credit limit of £2k with virtually no credit history and a sub £10k income. I'm earning a fair bit more now (still sub £20k) but I also have a 4+ times earnings mortgage that I'm paying on my own. When I asked them for an increase (online) for a balance transfer they moved me up to £4k in a couple of days (and I think I did it on a Saturday). It seems quite handy in that they also give you the option of asking them for a specific limit when you do it, although I'm not sure if that makes any difference.0 -

(EDIT)All things being equal(/EDIT) with your earnings you should be able to get more than that from MBNA, assuming you haven't still got a high level of debt on the side.
I don't know how bad the debt issues were, but 6 years a timescale I've got in my head for something to disapear off of your file so it's possible, but I wouldn't want to commit myself to saying that's the cause, there are others on here who have a better understanding of these things than me.
You'll probably have to wait until you've had the card for 6 months before they entertain the idea of an increase so if you use it well between now and then it should weigh in your favour. It's only my thoughts so again I could be wrong but it would seem logical to put a greater weighting on their recent experiance with you than on 4 to 5 year old events when you've got a clean record since then.0 -
i find them good, i have mbna vip entertainment card (gets advance notice etc for some theatre shows/concerts etc, for no charge) have always received my statement on time, (however i have mine set to direct debit any way so even if it was late, i wont get charged) i like the layout of their online access, they increase my limit time to time automatically,
only negative really, (though not much of one) was that when i phoned them last year to give them permission for my parents to call to discuss my account (i was travelling round australia last summer) or deal with any issues whilst i was away (ie if card got stolen, payments got rejected etc, they told me that in order for this to happen, i would have to allow one of them to be sent an additional card (not that this mattered, as my parents are trustworthy etc, but if some peoples arent etc, the main card holder would responsible for the 2nd card holders debts etc) where as the other providers whos cards i was also taking (nationwide and halifax) just made a note of this and set up a password for my parents to tell them
one plus as well, though its not much my card they do loyalty points for how much you spend, which i ahve redeemed on arcadia group (top shop, topman, burton, dorothy perkins etc) vouchers on several occasions (has come handy occasionally for christmas presents!
and they also were very helpful when i called and asked them to change the statement cycle date so the direct debit would come out just after pay day
my current credit limit is £6900, nbot that i have ever gone any where near that, and i am 26 had the card for about 6 years and earn c£17,000 paMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

if i remember right (i have several cards,) i think my starting limit was around £1500 and they upped it 6 months after to around £2500, and seem to get letters now and then or statements saying it has been increased again, i have never asked for any increases, but looking back at old statements in april 07 i had a credit limit of £5500, which then went to £5800 (july 07), then 6100 (oct 07), then 6500 (jan 08)then 6900 (april 08 onwards)MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
