Don't usually read this board but sawthe OP and read the thread. I can't understand why you need to become bankrupt - you say you can't work as you have 2 children under 4, but also that your older child is starting school. If I have got this right, and you only have 1 child at home now, why can't you work? Either putting the child in nursery, for which you'd get some state financial support, or getting relatives to help, or working at home in the evinings/naptimes.

I went back to work when my eldest was 4 months old, as we would have starved, literally, if I hadn't. I went back when my younger 2 were 1 year each, for the same reasons, not out of choice. In the case of my eldest, my parents babysat - in the case of my younger 2, I worked from home - there are countless things anyone with a little initiative can do, from selling on ebay to researching, and many, many more. I'm now self-employed - I don't make much, as my youngest is 2, but once he starts on longer hours next year I should make a lot more. Check out the Up Your Income Board for more ideas.

It seems rather defeatist to say you can't work.

You mean you don't want to. No-one does - but needs must, sometimes.
  • Hi Sorry Carolt this is an old thread as easier to not have to go through it all
Oldest is at school now and the other is now in nursery and I do work, granted not much goes in the pot as goes on nursery fees but I do work.

It really hasnt anything to do with money at the mo, just the fact that we are living in a house that barely heats us and has damp probs, as we are on interest only we can never own it and as in neg equity cant sell it without a shortfall. we are hoping and praying that we dont have to go br, would only need to do for the shortfall
  • Oh god hope Carolt hasnt posted and ran. she must think Im really lazy, Im not at all, and would fight tooth and nail for a house

We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will
  • Think where possibly on too much money for a grant, as we dont get benefits apart from ctc and cb

Does anyone think that eventually there will be 100% mortgages and also anyone heard of the negative equity scheme?
