This should have been sent to Ireland (Europe), which means that this should have been sent airmail for 42 pence.0 -

I also have faith in the Royal Mail, however it is important to use it correctly and pay the right amount.
Which is why I asked the question.
This could also explain some of the delays that have been experienced by those claiming a refund.
Firstly, Tipperary is in IRELAND (Republic of) - NOT Northern Ireland which is part of the UK.
So whilst you can send a 60g letter to Belfast (NI) for 21p or 30p (2nd/1st class), you can't do the same to Dublin ROI (Republic of Ireland - EIRE), or Tipperary in the instance.
Secondly the weight of the envelope is quite critical. The first weight limit is ONLY 20g.
Mine actually weighed 22g so fell into the second tier of "under 60g" limit.
My envelope contained 3 sheets of A4 (2 for the claim form & 1 for the receipt) and the small piece of cardboard box with the barcode on it.
The reason the weight is important is two fold, and here is where your mail could end up in limbo for a unknown period, while somebody decides what to do with it. Obviously cost changes with weight but the stamp value is also an indicator of which service is required.
Without an AIRMAIL sticker on the envelope - in theory it should go via Surface Mail. - However there are 2 categories of surface mail - LETTERS or "Small Packets and Printed Papers" (The "Letter" category generally is 50% to 60% more expensive than the other)
If your envelope was 20g or under then it could be determined to be a "letter" (cost 40p) and not "packet or printed paper" at 67p (same price 1g to 100g)
However at 21g or more (now 68p) the reverse decision could be made.
This makes a difference because "in theory" Letters can ONLY be sent by Surface mail to destinations OUTSIDE of Europe, but Ireland is in Europe so will go via airmail - but without an AIRMAIL sticker on the envelope ?
With an Airmail sticker on the envelope then at 20g or under the stamps should have totalled 42 pence, however mine at 22g (up to 40g) actually cost 60p.
So exactly how it gets there and how long it takes if you use a normal 1st/2nd class stamp and drop it in a post box is anyones guess.
Now I don't know how they handle postage underpayment in the ROI but with the Royal Mail the delivery tends to be significantly delayed and RM collect the amount that it's short and charge a "handling fee" of £1 - so Canon might not be too pleased. There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93
