Relocating to Bristol

You must be about 5 minutes drive from me then!
Bradley Stoke is not as bad as it was, but it still lacks a community feel. Mind you, so does most of Bristol, it's quite an insular place, not very welcoming to strangers. Saying that, I found that the further north I lived, the more friendly people are.0 -

I mean't as in that sort of way, i live in little stoke but its not far away is it.
Have lived in Bradley stoke, lived in Corriander drive at one point, i notice there is a house for rent there and i would go back there like a shot if we were privately renting again as it was a nice quiet neighbourhood.0 -
I have recently moved to St George and think it has a nice community feel. It has a nice park and plenty of shops on Church Road nearby. Church Road itself has seen recent improvments and now there are even two new cafes along the St George section
But unfortunately the pubs are pretty awful! The bus service into the centre is actually really good - surprising for Bristol! I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get a bus. As with most places that are fairly central, garages/allocated parking will be hard to come by.

Also try the area around st werburghs (spelling?) as its very close to bedminster but a bit nicer
Eh? St Werburghs is nowhere near Bedminster!
Although in terms of what the OP is looking for it might be ideal - it's reasonably easy to get to Cribbs (straight up the M32) and handy for town (2 miles or so, although you'd probably want to get a taxi as it's not the safest place to walk around late at night). Most parking is on street though as the houses are mainly terraced Victorian. Bus service is reasonable although they are only small buses and often full.
I would say that location is more important for whichever of you doesn't drive
- have you looked at Horfield? It's well served for buses and should be relatively easy to get someone with parking as the houses are a bit older and there is more space.
It really depends on how close you want to be to town as most inner city areas do lack off street parking.0 -
Is Horfield where Filton Avenue is? Thats where my friends live and we loved the properties inside, the problem we had with the area was parking. We went to view on a Saturday when the football was on and parking was a nightmare, returned on the night and again parking was terrible. The bus services from there would take at an estimate of 30mins to get to the town centre!0

For Horfield, have a look at Parkstone Avenue and some of the roads around there in Horfield, more up towards the Common. Some of them have garages round the back which helps with the parking situation. The football ground traffic wasn't a problem when I lived there but it was many years ago now.
If I was moving back to Bristol now I think I would go for, probably Westbury (Trym or Park) Sneyd Park, Stoke Bishop, Henleaze, Golden Hill, Redland, Cotham, Kingsdown, Clifton Wood. Problem is I think they are all probably pretty expensive now.0 -
Filton Avenue does through horfield. Not heard anything good about the area and only know people trying to get out but then everyone is different what they are looking for. You need to go spend some time in the areas at different times of day i think.0

Yes it would, but if you want to live somewhere with parking it's going to have to be further out of town as most inner city areas only have street parking (and there is talk about permits being introduced).
Plus you said you wanted it to be handy for Cribbs, and I can't move Cribbs any closer to town than it already is!
Amarillo, I think the OP would struggle to get a house in those areas for the price she wants to pay. A 2 bed house in my area (Eastville) is about £600 a month and it's not even a very desireable part of town (although I like it).0 -
hey lufcgirl,
hope you're getting somewhere with your search. i just thought i might through another area into the mix to get you even more confused than you probably already are.
you might want to have a look at Fishponds. I think it used to be pretty horrible, but these days it seems quite nice, lots of shops, pubs, and lots of houses around that area come with drives or parking of some kind. Motorways are very easy to get to, although i have no idea about the bus situation, maybe someone else would know about that?!
i also quite like the lower end of gloucester road, very close to the centre and in some of the side streets parking isn't too bad.
anyway, choices, choices.....
hope you find what you're looking for.0 -
Parking is not so bad around parts of Redland and you're close to the Gloucester Road (lots of shops, restaurants etc). Rents will be more expensive though. Anything around Cotham Brow or Clifton is going to be horrendous for parking, as lots of people park there during the day and walk to work and then you have a narrow window to get a space after they leave and before the people who live there get back from work and want to park. Filton will be cheaper, but it's not such a nice area (although improving!) and insurance for cars and homes will be more.
I think the best bet for now is somewhere like Stoke Gifford or Bradley Stoke, as well as places like Severn Beach or Thornbury, as both are readily accessible for the M5 and Cribbs (don't know what the rents are like though).0
