  • it's Biblical. My Dad quotes it when he's in a good mood (-:
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I dunno - over the past 30 years I've had £60,000 worth of mortgage. quote]

But isn't the key to that that you 'started' 30 years ago?

Of course one couldn't rent in London for £2000 a year, but neither could one buy for £60k mortgage plus 25% of that again as a deposit!

I have been avoiding posting on this thread due to strong feelings on all sides, and I cant really decide myself which way I think the market will go, however, an interesting point a friend of my mums made was the changing demographic of this country, and how this effects the housing market. For example, more divorces and fractured families, or single people choosing to move out of their parents home and buy a flat, who all require somewhere to live, so that it could be argued that more property would be required to house the same number of people. Hope that I have written it in a way to make some sense!

It does make sense, kelou. I personally would really rather that I wasn't needing to live on my own but these things happen and you can't plan for how your life is going to go. I am hoping that by the time it's worth buying again, I'll have met someone to buy with and will end up with an even better house!

On the other hand, with the price of electricity, gas, council tax and others going up drastically, it is bound to be more difficult for singles to live in big properties. And I guess it's the same for pensioners.
There should be more demand for 1-2 bed flats shurely.
More bearish than bullish at the moment

Yes, I think that was the point that they were making, that more housing would be needed period, and that that also affects the type of property people want or need. I think that is why so many developers seem to have bought detached houses, knocked them down and squeezed so many on the plot! I really dont know which way the market will go and dont really know enough to guess! Although I do kind of think as long as there is a demand for something with a restricted supply prices will remain at some kind of level, where that will be who knows!
