Getting PAC code from Orange PAYG?
Comments
-
Orange are refusing to issue PAC code even though I am the registered owner and give them the correct registration details.
They say that since it is a GOLD number, I have to provide proof of purchase which I do not have, can they legally do this?
How many people can actually prove where they purchased from?
Looks to me like a clever way of confiscating and acquiring expensive numbers for their own use.
Anyone in similar situation? and how was it resolved?0 -

If its an established number that you have been using, then they cannot withhold a PAC.
If its a GOLD number that you have recently acquired but not used, then they don't have to. (Porting is designed to allow you to keep the number you customarily use - numbers don't belong to you but to the network they were first allocated to. As such private sales of numbers are against the terms and conditions. If the network wants to, they can be awkward about this. ) In practice it means that if you acquire a number from a third party you should register and use it fir some time to establish it as 'yours'0 -

I'd ask Orange to give me a definition of 'Gold'.
Unfortunately Ofcom do say:The only reasons why a provider can refuse to give a PAC are:- the number does not belong to the customer of the losing mobile provider

Even more unfortunately, they don't say how you have to prove that the number belongs to you. Try asking them.0 -
I've just got myself a Samsung Galaxy S2 Smartphone on Three network with unlimited data/internet for £30.00 24 Mth contract. The reason I mention this is that, whilst I phoned Orange on 07973100450 (12.11.11) using my landline & spoke to an adviser who was very friendly & helpful, she did ask me several security questions which is totally right & proper, so be prepared with your relevent information beforehand. I had an Orange PAYG & needed my PAC Number as I wanted to keep my main mobile number onto my new samsung.
I was kept on hold for about 4 minutes only whilst she put me through to the PAC team, a Male PAC Advisor spoke to me Asking why I was leaving Orange? I told him about getting the Samsung Galaxy S2 with unlimited data for £30PM via Three, He then proceeded to tell me that I could get same phone with Orange for £30PM with 1GB data/internet allowance per month. I told him I had already done my homework & Three had the best deal & why on earth would I want only 1GB when I can get unlimited (Thankyouverymuch!!!:)) He did try to say how much I could do with 1GB, but I told him I'd already made up my mind & just wanted my Pac Code (please!). He then realised I wasn't going to budge & immediatly sent me through my Pac Number to my Orange PAYG Mobile via Text.
So all in all I personally found it quite quick & pain free to get my PAC code from orange & not the hassle I thought it might be.0
