see i have always shampooed my carpets every 3 months so they never really get dirty or smelly but i thought that if i bought lino i could just mop myself out of the room every night before bed

thanks for all these i think i will go with lino, just going to take a while to find something to suit as our bathroom is tiny, and have to try and find a nice colour because the room is going to be lilac

    Hello iwanttosave

To help you chose the lino, why not take a sample of your bathroom colour scheme with you? Create your sample with some lilac paint onto a piece of white card.;)

and wait for a carpetright special offer.
  • Hi there

The answer is personal choice alone. I would however recommend that you go to a family run business where product knowledge and service is often superior to larger companies. Prices are often on a par or when a little higher the product and fitting is superior.

Carpet in a bathroom provides warmth and insulating properties. Never go for a carpet which has a wool mix blend (in a bathroom) as these types naturally react to moisture and do break down over time. Fibres need to me polypropylene types, man made. There are many different types and most have water impervious backings. Some bathroom inc. kitchen ranges are sunlight and bleach resistant. Again you may pay a little more but a good quality carpet should provided it has been fitted well and under sealed should last 10+ plus plus plus!

Regarding Lino or Vinyl, again a cushioned flooring for insulation and warmth in a bathroom is recommended. Appropriate sub floor preparation and sealing with latex screed where appropriate, glued with the appropriate water resist glue.

As for carpets being phased out in a few years, utter tosh! Carpets contain self cleaning materials including Lanolin, keeping the dust and mites out of the breathable atmosphere until vacuumed, as opposed to lying on the surface and being blown into the breathable atmosphere.

To cut a long story short...certain large companies created hysteria, miss information and false unscientific data about allergies and carpets. Result:...the death of many old and established British Manufacturing Businesses! A large percentage of carpets are now made elsewhere, our products were/are the best i.e. Axminsters, Wiltons, etc. Carpets are making a come back, in our business they never declined. Laminates are ok....if you like MDF covered in a thin surface 'pattern' and sealed! Myself I am not too keen on the cardboard floor.A large % of those who had gone over to Laminates are coming back to carpets with a vengeance!!!

Hope this info help a little

I agree with Celtica about laminate floors, never saw the attraction there. I have carpets in some rooms but NEVER in the bathroom or kitchen.
