we are just about to have our bathroom done and i cant decide to have carpet or lino/tiles.
I want carpet because i like getting out of the bath on to a nice soft bit of carpet but i want lino because its easier to keepclean and doesn't start to smell when it gets wet or when DS sprinkles when he tinkles.
what do you think?

I've always had carpet in my bathroom, I like cosy feet when I get out of the bath
but a lot of people say it's a problem. Never been a problem for me. I suppose it's down to personal taste. ~What you send out comes back to thee thricefold!~~0 -
I often have this conversation with customers and it is a matter of preference, but I personally don't usually recommend carpet in bathrooms, it does get very nasty after even a relatively short space of time especially when boys are involved! Lino is ok if it's good quality, non-slip and fitted properly, and preferably fitted before the sanitaryware (bath is ok to go in before) as it's a much better job to fit it onto the lino than to cut the lino around the pan and pedestal/vanity unit. If you're having lino and have a traditional floorboard floor, it will need to be hardboarded beforehand. The other option of course is tiles, more pricey but there are quite a few nice rough non-slip tiles available for bathroom floors and you can even incorporate electric trace heating to keep them warm underfoot!0

i agree, think lino or a hard surface would be a lot better, we had carpet at our old place and only 2yrs old it was showing signs of wear and you did wonder what was living in it

Overheard a discussion at work last week a lady reckons that carpets will be phased out in few yrs because of all the bugs they hold and house, has anyone else heard of this?0 -
Carpets were in decline until about a year ago. No they are making a popular comeback.
I think some people have had enough of all the laminates etc.... and want nice carpet in their bedrooms etc.....
I have also heard that shagpile is making a comeback!! :eek:0 -
I'd vote for lino. It is far easier to manage, and you can always get a nice bathroom, washable rug.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Agree with grumbler. Carpets in bathrooms and kitchens - ugh! Looking at the colour of the water when I wash the floors I wouldn't want that dirt in a carpet I was stepping on after a bath. I have two large bath mats that are machine washable, they get put over the airer in the bathroom at night and changed over every week at least.0

Carpets in our bathroom and en-suite when we moved in. After re-decorating we had cushionfloor fitted. It was costly at £150 but you can get cheaper. We just liked the design.
You should have seen how wet the underlay was when I ripped the carpet up.
As a few people have said we have a big comfy bath mat. Much better now.0 -
thanks for all these i think i will go with lino, just going to take a while to find something to suit as our bathroom is tiny, and have to try and find a nice colour because the room is going to be lilacWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0
