Why is it my richer clients drive old bangers?

What people need to do, is step back and look at this as a "Conrad post".
Oh sweetie you can always make me chuckle!
I know I know.. .what's the first rule of internet message boards?
Don't
Feed
The
Troll!
And what have I been doing?!
I just got all upset and worried.
And terrified that someone else would get even more upset than me about it....
I'm going to stop now though, cos if the powers that be don't see a cause for concern then I'll trust in their judgement on this one.
:kisses3: Big smacker for you honey.

I know what you're saying honey but DFW isn't the place for debate is it?
I'd happily argue the toss until kingdom come in The Arms - but DFW is different.
It's not respectful to tell a whole community of people it's all their own fault that these things have happened to them.
For an encore does he do the same on Child Abuse Support boards? Perhaps they should have insured against that when they were fricken 15 as well.

Imagine you're in a hole with the rest of your family. Is it your fault? Is it Mrs BB's fault?
Did you know if you finger-point really vigorously, you can levitate?
Me neither...
This is a self-help group. Blame does not help. You can locate the "culprit" and you'll still be down a hole. This board gets people out of a hole. You can lay the blame later when you're out of the hole. In that case, we don't want to know, because blaming things is not helpful in getting out of a hole.
Finding the cause of the issue and resolving it can help - I was a prat, I thought I deserved more than I could afford, my attitude to money had this effect etc... finding the cause attributing the blame can help especially if it's a constant overspend issue. Yep we make mistakes but acknowledging them and leanring can be very useful. I think you sometimes have to identify the cause and attribute blame to get out the hole.0 -
For some people the reason for the lack of savings is keeping up with the Jones, which is fine in their opinion because "they can afford it" and it fits in the budget, but if there's no back up plan, then the truth is, they can't there's something missing from the budget.
It's easier to notice hte people earning the same as you with nicer stuff/lifestyle than notice the people doing better you haven't got the stuff.... but it's also a little erroneous to think the old banger is cheaper than the shiny one on credit - it is in the long run but to access the cheap one you still need a lump sum... hence the cycle.....0 -
I saw this post yesterday just as it was posted and I did not comment because quite frankly i felt the OP was looking to cause some trouble and not have a serious 'discussion'. Comeing back to the thread and reading all the responses I am glad to see it has stayed civil but I still doubt the OP's motives.
I must admit the debt figure in my signature appears to be scary but that is because I consider my mortgage to be a debt just the same as I would a credit card or car finance etc.
A few things have puzzled me about this thread, firstly why make such sweeping generalisations. We all know old volvos are virtually indestructable but when a new clutch costs a tidy 4 figure sum to replace and fuel economy is laughable then they are hardly the most efficient. It has always puzzled me why drive an old audi estate or volvo estate even if you do require the extra room an estate provides there are modern equivelents that are much more cost effective especially if you buy them at 3 years old.
Dare I suggest that all of your clients may not appear as frugal and good with money as you may think from first look.
Secondly why mention your family's money issues as some sort of defence when you are accused of being judgmental of the DFW. IMO its a bit like saying 'i'm not racist/sexist/homophobic, I have black/female/gay friends'.
Thirdly how did a 30 YO woman on 14k a year get 450k worth of property spread over 2 houses andbe mortgage free on both by careful spending alone. At 30 she has only been able to buy for 12 years so even considering price increases over the last few years I cannot see how the figures stack up unless there has been some sort of windfall/inheratince.
That being said even those who do have a 3 month buffer for bills etc if not earning may find themselves in trouble depending on the reason for not earning or earning significantly less.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -

You've made the sweeping generalisation that people go to the volvo dealership or garage... a new clutch costs very little if you go to a breakers, have a mate with an engine hoist and will do it yourself.... my cambelt was 17 quid and blood, sweat and tears - the dealership wanted 500.... if we are talking rural areas there's a lot of cash in hand, people on the social who are good 'with cars' (usually other peoples....) down back fen roads who'll sort you out if you are so inclined.... a three year old car maybe cost effective on running costs but it's that upfront lump sum obstacle for many...0 -

So, ignoring possible safety implications, you would advocate an illegal 'Black Economy' then, bb?I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Other people not "on the social" are good with cars too. Doesn't have to be black market. My dad and bro are mechanics - yay for me!Total Debt: £0 [STRIKE]£33,043[/STRIKE]

That is different, sb - even, possibly, what dads and brothers are there for.
However, Barnaby specifically mentioned, some might say suggested, 'cash in hand, people on the social'.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
