Why is it my richer clients drive old bangers?

I cant help noticing that my clients that are comfortable, even wealthy, tend to drive modest cars such as;
Old Volvo etstaes
Old Audi estates
A typical client of this ilk will be a professional, tends not to worry about clothes too much, and is modest and under stated. They would not for example wear anything with a large designer label as they would see this as a weakness ('I'm a sucker robot that has been duped by a designer into making the designers family even richer').
Even though well off, they are careful with money.
On the other hand clients of mine that have a large debt proportion and little in the way of assets (without debt) seem to drive;
Mitsibushi Warriors
BMW X'5s
Range Rover Sports
They want to make an impression on others, and thier fave method is to display 'apparant' wealth for all to see. They love talking about anything that enhances thier status.
People will say of these, that they are loaded, yet in reality few of them are - I know I get to see these people every day. Its all an illusion of wealth.
Wealth whispers, money talks.
So next time to hear someone say about someone else "they're minted", dont be taken in.
So often I meet quiet simple people that have no debt, and not even necessarily a high income yet they are wealthy.

I agree - I work with some stonkingly rich people......yet the amount of frayed collars is quite amazing!
I learnt the lesson early on......a friend of my parents was always going out for nice meals.....people would always comment on the fact that they must be loaded because they were able to spend so much on fine dining.
The truth was, they went without the stuff that others took for granted - they only had a black and white telly, never took a holiday, etc. I learned then not to judge peoples' finances based on the one bit you can see.....Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

I agree totally. All too often people seem to have it all. Fantastic holidays, lovely car, gorgeous clothes. However a large percentage of these people are up to their eyeballs in debt and will come to earth with a bloomin big bang when their credit runs out. I have seen it happen all too often.

My DD went to school with the daughter of a famous pop star. (1980's chap, very nice bloke)
His car was the most battered old banger in the school car park. :rotfl:0 -

I find this a very 'simplistic' attitude towards debt - some might say 'patronising'.
Having read some of your previous posts, Conrad, why not have your say about 'debtors squandering money' and leave us alone, there's a good chap.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
