Many thanks to MSE, capped my electricity with E.on a few weeks back. I have never done this before and as I was an existing E.on customer, it was really easy and I received my confirmation letter a few days later. Guess we'll all have start saving now for Oct 2009:eek:

  • Hmmm, I capped last week (already an EON customer with electric and now taking gas from them too). I was promised that the amount I agreed to on that day would be the amount I pay during my capped period but have heard that as it takes a couple of weeks for it all to go through I might end up paying more...

You should be fine and still be at the v17 prices. The transfer of gas will take a few weeks but it will come over at the agreed price.

Anyone want to admit they switched to capped, thought they were being conned and switched back during the 14 day cooling-off period?

    I did :-)

I am on the Energy Online Saver 5 tariff. It comes with a 9% discount and I've just worked out that if I stayed on the v17 capped tariff (and lost that extra 9% discount) I'd be slightly better off for electric, but still worse off for gas. As long as there aren't any more rises before next October, I'm not too upset.

I'm with e.on, and this brings my day unit rate to 29.48 p/kWh. The advice on this site at the moment is not to switch yet, because the company I may switch to might raise their prices after I've switched. However, if I switched to EBICo, I'd be paying 13.17p kWh..Yes, I know they're tied to Southern Electric, who tend to be one of the last to raise, and so EBICo would probably raise as well, but they'd have to raise it more than 124% for me to be worse off!! I can't see any problem with switching now, myself..
  • I left Eon after they doubled my bill without even telling me the price had gone up....it was a massive shock....

Here! :money: Difference is I absolutely KNEW I was being conned. ;) Signed up to BGs Price Protection Dec 2009 a few hours before the typically BG-like silly rise and when I looked at the figures KNEW they were conning people on the electricity price (the gas is OK in comparison). The leccy would have worked out OVER 40% more than Click 5 on my expected usage, not forgetting the fact they would also charge me for the priviledge of leaving them before december 2009 if I wanted to! And remember this was one of Martin's 'good cop' caps, not the subsequent rubbish ones! You have to be so careful when hype takes over. Constant vigilance is the price of eternal freedom and all that. ;)

Here's the relevant figures for you:

Yorks region Click 5 Electricity Tier 2 figure (yes, it hasn't gone up yet, I know) 8.002

    Price Protection 2009 price 11.439p!!!!!

they are clearly extracting the urine. Remember you are paying this ridiculous premium immediately...and if you don't like it have to pay BG to let you get out of it! :p

If the prices have gone up today surely its best to give them your latest readings so that they cant over estimate your bill with the new prices
