  • What is the graphics card for this machine?
And if i watched DVD's would they be TV standard or slow and jittery? (i have got a CDRW/DVD player i would connect).
"Still, this isn't to say that Dell hasn't cut a few corners to hit such an aggressive price. The first corner it rounds is with the system's graphics subsystem. Instead of a dedicated graphics card with its own graphics memory allotment, the Dimension 2400 uses an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 chip built directly into the motherboard, which borrows up to 64MB of the system RAM for graphics tasks. This is a perfectly acceptable solution for running all of the apps in the bundled Works 2004 suite or surfing the Web. The system handles basic photo editing without issue and is adequate for DVD playback, because the CPU is doing most of the work in that case. Just don't think about games. While integrated graphics solutions are improving, the Intel solution found here lacks the oomph needed for the majority of today's 3D games. "
The above quote is taken from the znet article on this system.
Not much good for modern gaming, but plays DVD's fine.

if you buy an external modem with your dell pc, get an ethernet modem, must easier to use, and need to install any drivers, as it all happens automatically with Xp.

being a computer virgin, can anybody tell me if you can get an external graphics card ( thingy) that fits in to the usb slots on this machine. if yes can you play sims 2 on the machine with or without the extra card. :-/

Nope, graphics cards are internal, pci or (preferably) agp. Cheap dells usually don't have an agp slot, so you would have to use pci - which severely restricts your choices in powerful graphics cards. Sims 2? I don't know, what's the requirements?
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Can somebody who knows something about Pc's compare the Dell to this one for me.
    I don't need a new monitor.
Which would be best for gameplay and watching DVD's?

The ebuyer one is definately better for gameplay, the sempron processor used to be called the Athlon XP, which are good for gaming. Only problem with this machine is that it has a build in videocard, you would need to find out if the motherboard has an agp slot for proper 3d gaming! Not that cheap actually.

Yup I second that. AMD's are good for gaming purposes but if your looking to do other processor intensive stuff then a Intel Pentium is what you should look at. I will always buy a Pentium over a AMD if I am looking at a computer to last me a good 4-5 years. You will need to put in a graphics card yes AGP would be good but I suppose a very good PCI would be ok if you dont have a large budget. And I would advise atleast getting a CD burner. :)

here is the dell basket containing both options of PC discussed in this thread together with 5% discount applied. just delete the pc that is not appropriate for your needs.

warning. there is no modem included so you will need to adjust system specs to include one if needed.

THIS PC IS NO GOOD FOR PLAYING THE LATEST 3D GAMES. BUY SOMETHING ELSE IF THAT IS YOUR REQUIREMENT.
