  • No, but it does not have a built-in modem. You can either buy a modem card for a few pounds or buy an external modem. The machine will work perfectly well with either a dial-up modem or adsl.

Thanks GDB2222, I've never bought a pc before, always had the fortune of using company lap tops, but at this price you can't go wrong ;D
  • thanks i've let my dad know as his pc keeps breaking down

  • not sure what motherboard the Dell comes with..probably a crap one..but you can just add your existing hard drive as a slave and set the one in the Dell to a master drive. Your motherboard or disk drive manufacturer should have instructions on their website how to do this.

Before you do anything though always backup your crucial data...

Another alernative is you can have a dual boot system...im using a PC with an old disk drive (6.4gb) believe it or not which has WIN ME installed on it (Microsoft's finest product...not!) - i rarely use it but need to clean it up after upgrading to a bigger disk a year ago.....the new disk is 160gb which has Win XP...they are effectively 2 seperate systems, but only using one at a time.

The 2400 only has one hard drive bracket, so to use another hard disk as well, you will need to get another bracket (or use one of the 5.25" bays with a 3.5" convertor)

    Steve ;D ;D
  • I found a review of the 2400 here:

This is not the exact spec of the machine you are buying

    Nelly

I must say that for the money I can build a much more upgradeable machine. The worst aspect is the motherboard used here, it must cost dell about £2. I have seen more features on a casio watch tbh.

Still, for people who want a plug and play solution then it works out cheap enough.
  • Yes this PC is a basic get me onto the internet machine it has poor on board graphics and no AGP slot so cannot be upgraded so if you are into playing any game less than 2 years old you would be struggling.

Its fine for your grandma and grandad and maybe kids under 10 but anyone who plays games manipulates digital images or wants to encode video no chance.I would certainly double the memory as a matter of course any machine running XP needs at least 512mb IMHO

Still for what it does it is good value at this price..full price Dull/Dell are having a laugh.
  • Ive ordered the 2.8ghz 512kb 533Mhz FSB one is it worth the extra money please? will it cope with games like call of duty etc? (came out at £383 all in with a 15"flat panel)
  • being a computer virgin, can anybody tell me if you can get an external graphics card ( thingy) that fits in to the usb slots on this machine. if yes can you play sims 2 on the machine with or without the extra card. :-/
