  • Try using a Euro next time! I keep one in the car so I can always get an Aldi trolley - and the kids don't nick it.

children's walking boots - certainly 2 and 3 yrs ago, v cheap, up to ankle, zip up with velcro tabs, waterproof, fleece lined, look cool with reflective strips, lasted till grown out of unlike almost any other shoes I have ever bought them, and one son liked them so much he wore them to school in preference to all others
bratwurst delicious thin sausages v high meat content
dry cure bacon (watch out for the foil lettering in the label if you try to defrost in the microwave!)
tins of roasted almonds and cashews
mini-stollen (at christmas) - positively dangerously moist and delicious
prosecco (Italian 8% pre-dinner dry bubbly absolutely gorgeous chilled +looks posh in a blue bottle tied with string for only 2.99
litre sized fruit yoghourts esp forest fruits
tins of herring - every flavour imaginable and all that omega 3
pesto (very oliy but lovely flavour)
cloudy apple juice 89p as opposed to £1 or more in standard supermarkets
little cartons of multifruit juice for kids packed lunches
'snacky-crackies' - watch out these are incredibly moreish! sesame or roasted onion flavour
    paprika flavour crisps (large bags)
They do a nice hair conditioner in a white bottle - can't remember the name

Or buy a St. Luke’s Hospice Coin on a Keychain!

I can certainly recommend the Electronic stuff. I bought their 32" LCD TV a while ago and the picture is brilliant.
I have used a PC I bought from them with a wireless router which have not let me down since I bought them. Plus other gadgets and tools as well.
The only disappointment recently was when I purchased an electric chain saw which I didn't open for a couple of weeks, then when I came to use it, I found someone had nicked a part out of it, which made it useless.
So I returned it and because there was no more stock, they just gave me my money back, no quibble.
Foodwise, I like any of their Asian offerings, such as Nasi Goreng etc, or their Cooked chicken Tikka breast pieces. Great with a stir fry!

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof was to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

  • Having been on Maternity for a year it was ditch Sainburys and shop at Lidl. I thought I would have to do some shopping in the bigger supermarkets and then do a bit at Lidl. But have now got so used to it I very rarely go to the bigger supermarkets. I have at cut my shopping bill in half.

So we buy everything but I can seriously recomend their:
    Nappies,
    Washing Powder,
    All cheeses,
    Juices,
    Chorizo

And everything else that has been mentioned.

    Happy Shopping
  • We've only got a Lidl nearby, but I live in a shared house of skint people, and we all swear by their:

    Olive Oil (sooo cheap!)
Balsamic Viegar - about half what you'd pay anywhere else, and just as tasty
Mozarella - at 50 odd pence a ball, you can't say fairer than that - also nicer the most supermarket own brands
    Rocket
    Herbs and spices
    Tins of 99p ground espresso
That 70-75% chocolate we all love
Booze. Esp the White Beer that they sometimes get (it sells out fast), their martini's not bad either. The gin's OK, but tastes a bit synthetic; that's all I've tried!
Loo Roll: We buy in bulk as a house and have a loo roll mountain every six months or so. Take your car or you need to have really good balance on a bike!
    Pesto
Pickles of all descriptions esp gerkhins
Basmati Rice (half price, but if you're not buying bulk, it comes in fussy little carboard boxes)
    Tinned Tuna
    Tinned tomatoes, kidney beans
Smoked Salmon - better quality than most supermarket own, esp Somerfield. Also MUCH cheaper
    Spicy christmas biccies

    Don't buy Lidl Razor blades
    Eddmac2, Have a great day
  • Only really know Lidl and am a great fan. Agree with most posts and especially love the luxury muesli.

As far as i am concerned, one of the greatest savings is time. You really can't spend hours there; once you get to know where everything is, it's a 15 minute wizz round for a major shop
  • Aldi is fab for:

Chicken Kiev - real chicken breasts and better than M&S
    Olive Oil
Frozen salmon fillets with pesto and capers
    Chinese/indian frozen snacks
all the deli meats - blows Sainsbury's out of the water
    fresh pasta
    pesto
    anti pasti
    fresh chicken breasts
    nuts
White wine especially pino griggio(sp) £3.99 fantastic value
luxury mince pies - highlighted in 'Good Food' mag

I keep finding new things every time I go.

the veg seems a bit tired if you go at the end of the day.
  • Always buy from netto,
    Mild Chedder,
    Mature Chedder,
    Dry cure pre-packed ham,
    Beans,
    Potatoes, 5kg
    Bread,
    Lean minced beef,
    Peach Snappz,
    Paracetamol (16)
    Gammon Steaks,
Very good offers on one off goods like mp3 players etc,
    Coolsteel
A fool and their money are easily parted.

the 1.5 litre orange juice in LIDL for 57p is the best you can buy.
