central heating not working in bought house

Please can anyone tell me if there is any kind of gurantee/waranty for the seller to have responsibility of the central heating not working?

Should this have been left in working order?

If so should i contact my solicitor?

Many thanks

Did you have a survey done?.... if so then somewhere it will state wether the central heating has been tested (usually not unless you asked specifically) its up to you to have it checked and if its now not working I don't think you have any comeback to be honest...

I think before you move in you get one of those checklists stating what is being left in the house and I vaguely remember that saying something like GCH in working order(subject to your testing),or words to that effect. So I think you are stuck, but double check with your solictor its what you pay him /her for.

When you say it isn't working is the boiler not firing up or is it some of the radiators not working? Most ch systems need a bit of tinkering with after being off all summer.

    good luck

    Thanks guys.

Well i have just emailed my solicitor so i will see what they come back with.

The water is getting hot but the central heating just wont heat up. It is making a noise and sounds like it is working.

I may need to get a plumber...

In scotland the seller would have to put this right. In England you have less rights.

Check the standard questions answered by the seller, if they said it worked then it should do so, though it doesn't have to work perfectly.

It may be that there is a setting wrong, is there a thermostat anywhere?

If the house was occupied, I would expect the previous owners to have had CH, chances are there is a switch you haven't seen.

Mine has two controls one for hot water and the other for the heating circuit.
Both are located on the timer.
Are they all cold, upstairs? Have you checed for air by bleeding them?
If warmer upstairs and cold down could be a pump problem

    edit: for spelling

sounds like the pump might not be going - these often stick when not used for a while. If you're brave you could give it a tap!!

check whether the very bottom of the radiator and the pipes to and from the radiator are getting hot or not.

if they are then it just means your radiators are full of air and need to be bled (and the system probably needs to be topped up with more water).
