Are my tomatoes going to ripen?

I'm on the North East coast and my tomatoes are still as green as grass. They are supposed to be cherry toms but so far they just keep getting bigger and bigger,no sign of turning red though.0

I've got no toms at all, only loads of flowers. I don't suppose they'll take now?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Keep hoping, I heard a weather man yesterday saying it could be a very nice September.
I hope so because my 400 year old variety of melon has suddenly decided to produce 2 baby melons after weeks of just male flowers :rolleyes:Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Yours must be really squashed up. I have a 10x6 and I have 12 tomato plants, 11 chillis and 2 tiny melon plants. I think mine is a bit squashed~Chameleon~ wrote: »Don't we all!
It's true what they say that the one you buy will never be big enough Mine is only 6'x8' and I could have filled that 3 times over this summer and still need more space!
I've got mostly toms in there (18 plants) and a few peppers.
I know what you mean about getting bored with the std varieties. Because last year was so bad for blight, I've grown mostly resistant varieties, ie ferline and legend, but they haven't got the taste of the gardeners delight and I want to try something different next year.
I have got marmenade outside, but they show no signs of ripening and I'm guessing they won't before blight gets them.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
What about trying this recipe for green tomatoes.
Use a wide frying pan to heat 5 Tbs olive oil then add 800g of green tomatoes cut into quarters. Lay them cut side down and fry until browned then turn to brown the other side. Add three garlic cloves (peeled and cut into small stick pieces). Scatter the garlic between the tomatoes and add a pinch of chilli flakes and a tsp of ground cumin. When garlic has turned to a light nut brown colour, season and add a Tbs aged balsamic vinegar. Serve hot from the pan or at room temperature. You may want to scatter a pinch of chilli flakes over the top.0 -
Well I've just chomped some of my cherry plum tomatoes - can't remember what exactly they are called, then picked a few more. I now have three bowls of them plus some cherry tomatoes. Yum yum0

Don't worry, there is still time for them to ripen. You could try taking a few of the lower leaves off the plants and pinching out the tops. Just leave one leaf past the trusses of green tomatoes. They should then panic and start to ripen in time for your return from honeymoon!
Good luck0 -
I am in London doing container gardening and can't keep up with my tomatoes, I am picking this much or more every day! I agree about the bananas, I always place the green ones that fall off the plants amongst bananas and in two days they turn red

im looking after my neighbour's garden while she is away, went round today i picked 5 red tumbling toms from hers, wouldnt mind but they were spare plants that i grew and gave her, i have eaten quite a few nanas over the past couple of days and hung the peels among my toms but they are still green:mad:
I have stripped most of the leaves off did that weeks ago also keep cutting off flowers that are trying to grow so they put energy into the green ones that are there.
I think im going to end up with a cupboard full of green chutney at this rate LOL0
