I also have several tomato plants and they are all green, I have a few plants that are cherry toms that I grew from a seed and I have some I got from freecycle and they are massive tomatos and they too are still green.
I have been told to pick them and put them into a paper bag and put them into the airing cupboard, or put them in a clothes drawer under clothes,
I'm not sure what to do.
My mum said they did the clothes drawe thing in her day, and she is 70 odd.July 185.19/200/Aug=170.25//200//sept=81.24/200. 2adults,3 kids + 2 dogs.

Here in the midlands I've been picking greenhouse fruit for 3 - 4 weeks, although I've still an awful lot of green ones to ripen.
Outside its different, only a very very few cherry toms and none of the normal and beefsteak ones are ready yet, although I think a moneymaker one is getting there. Even though I have restricted outside plants to 3 trusses each and kept them small.
Conclusion, get a greenhouse and don't ever go on holiday.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Ive got loads of plants that still only have flowers lol0

I'm in Gloucester, the garden faces south-west. I've picked a few toms from the garden, I still have some that are green but they're ripening.
I've picked 22lb 5.75oz (yes I'm sad, I'm weighing everything that's grown lol) from the greenhouse so far, and there's more ready now and even more on the way. I've had 5 cucumbers so far from 1 plant - the other plants died.I am a coffee bean0 -
Well, here in Zummerzet my outdoor ones (unusual variety based on Gardeners' Delight) are doing OK, but then we do pay high Council Tax and expect decent weather.... Or maybe it's because I have them against a south west facing white wall. (Mind you, if it wasn't white & needing painting now & again, I'd put something more permanent there.)
As my Scottish mother would have said, 'Dinnae fash yersel' as the weather will surely perk up in a week or so when the kids go back to school, and there is bags of time yet for toms to ripen.
And, Lotus Eater, having had a nursery for many years, we've always gone on holiday at the end of October. Believe me, apart from the shorter days, we've found few disadvantages and plenty of plusses, especially the prices at that time of year!0 -
......have a banana or an apple!!!
...... To hasten the ripening process of any fruit, place an already ripe apple or banana peel in the same bag and store it at room temperature, fruit ripening is caused by the plant hormone ethylene released by the bananas/apple!
Spoke to someone today who hangs banana's inbetween his tomato plants - one or two (in greenhouse)and he reckons its the answer to british summers!!
