Are my tomatoes going to ripen?

Hello, I've got a question about tomatoes. We have quite successfully grown some tomato plants from seed and they all have tomatoes on them. Some have quite a lot - they're all green and with the weather being rubbish, I'm a bit worried they may not ripen. We don't have a greenhouse. Is it normal for tomatoes (these are cherry tomatoes) to still be green at this stage? We've loads of them, and we're getting married in a month and then we'll be away for 3 weeks - so they have to ripen in the next 4 weeks!

I've got quite a few green tomatoes too.
I have my doubts as to whether they'll ripen or not. If they don't I'm going to pick them and put them on the inside window sill in our living room. It gets very warm there.
Have done this before and it has worked.
failing that my OH will make green tomato chutney with them.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0 -
Hi there
All my tomatoes are outdoors and are ripening fine.. and it isn't that sunny here at the moment..its warmth more than sunshine that ripens them.. I am fetching in between 12oz and 1lb a day :j any that get knocked off by the wind whilst green are going on the windowsill and ripening up just fine.
Im sure yours will soon be going red... I noticed that they seem to go from dark green to almost translucent then ripen..so keep an eye out for any just looking paler
oooohhh and my grandad always used to drop banana skins on the branches or around the bottom of the plants to help them along -apparently they give off some kind of gas that ripens things up -which is why i never put my nanas in with other fruit
might be worth a try -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I had 3 plants that I put out early - the tumbler has nearly all ripened, and the sunbaby maybe half have ripened. On the moneymaker not a single one has, so I have given up and chutneyed them.
I also have 4 that I grew from seed later - all gartenperle I think - and they are in the same state as yours. Not sure if they are going to ripen as they are all very green, not even lightening a shade yet. Looks like I could have a LOT of chutney this year!0 -
Thanks everyone. Maybe there's hope for us yet! There's way more tomatoes than we expected so I am very pleased about that, and actually some of the bigger ones are starting to sort of translucent. I shall try the banana skin trick, thank you!0

It's all about the chutney
Since it's harder to find green tomatos, at least in the supermarkets, they're worth more to me
(...mine haven't ripened yet either..)0 -
