it's been churning over in my mind in the last couple of weeks about the time i spend looking and posting on here .
now i've had a warning ...it's probably time to duck out .
Unfortunately I feel the same. It's time to up sticks and leave I feel.
Although I've never quite made it to the heady heights of an astronaut, i'm one of few people here that not only work in travel, but have also stuck around as well. But apparently after 1359 travel related posts, i've 'obviously come to the wrong site'. Just wish someone had told me earlier!
Still, I was starting to catch a nasty case of deju-vu anyway! Ciao!0 -
Sam Bee's contribution for Money Saving travel to Thailand and other places has been very good and benefited a lot of people, they'll just have to search for it.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Great! I knew I shouldn't have bothered posting on here.
Yes this WAS my first post, and if the barrage of snide remarks thrown at me for being a 'first-and-only' poster is something to go by... then this will most definately be the last time I post!
I thought this forum was to allow folks to Report successes/failures? But maybe I missed the sentence that said "Only those people with more than 10 posts are allowed to give their opinion/successes/failures"!!
I will humbly resign myself to reading the forum from now on less I upset all those with 100's of posts...This space has been intentionally left blank0 -
A couple of years ago I received a free and totally unexpected upgrade from the Hungarian airline Malev on a return flight from Budapest - fantastic food, wine and service. I am a member of their freqent flyer club but because I only occasionally fly with them I am stuck at their lowest tier of membership. Nevertheless I can only assume this was what got me my upgrade. Here's to more!0

Malev are part of one world and their flights to the UK have BA numbers, so you could stick the miles on a BA card, depends how much you fly BA though.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I flew BA LHR to ISB, dressed smart casual and did the usual of asking check in for upgrade (nicely) but without any luck, went to the gate and prior to the plane you give the boarding pass and its put through a machine and your allowed on to the plane, at this moment, nice lady says your been upgraded:D:D my eyes lit up and i dreamt of the luxury of Business ./ first class. Sadly it was all short lived as I had gone from basic econmomy to the next economy class:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:, so apart from more leg room nothing else0

Ask as you board the plane is NOT bad advice.
This is where I have been upgraded (I have never asked). Only the day before posting my initial advice, I was talking to a colleague who used to work for BA, who used to upgrade people every day. So I had her advice & my own experiences to draw upon.
Personally I wouldn't ask. However her advice was to do what I suggested. If I did all this I would fully expect a polite refusal on most occasions, but hope for the odd surprise?
I view upgrading as a bonus, a treat if you like? It's not something I'm that bothered about to be honest.0 -

Anyway as I got on the flight I was asked if I would mind changing my seats so that a father & daughter could sit together. I said no problem as I headed towards the back of the plane to my new Economy seat, and then jokingly said to the Flight Attendant - "First class would have been nicer". Anyway, just before the plane takes off, the Flight Attendant came to tell me that "my upgrade had been confirmed" So from Chicago to London on American Airlines I got to fly first class!! Sooooooo cool.
Same thing happened to me once, when I was "bumped" flying out of Madrid. They eventually didn't need me and the check-in woman was next to useless (I was kind enough to miss the flight & she didn't even allow me enough time to call in duty free). It was at the boarding gate that I was upgraded.
It's always at the boarding gate (in my experience) that the upgading takes place.0 -

Dont be so daft. Once you realise that there is a very small clique on here who think they own the place then you'll be fine. You can spot them a mile off and they are like hyenas in a feeding frenzy. If you're unsure just look how they thank each other for every single comment. Its actually quite amuzing.
They cling to a topic like this one because firstly it was set up by a moderator which means they can massage their egos because their lives are clearly so mundane that acting 'big' makes them feel so much better about their other wise dull and boring lives.
For people to tell of their 'upgarde experiances' in a thread dediactated as such has clearly passed them by. They have an agenda and that is to basically be a spoily, niggly obnoxious, holier than thou individual backed up by their fellow bum lickers.
I can imagine them now, sat in skin tight chinos, wearing a T Shirt from 30 years ago all sniggering as they drink cheap Rose. It wouldnt surprise me if they had a notepad and every time they think they have one over on someone they mark it 'one to me'
Pathetic and jealous.0
