How to cancel Setanta Sports

I sent 4 letters and 3 e-mails, and received 4 demands for re-instatement of direct debit/payment before Setanta cancelled my account after almost 3 months of trying.
I followed Setanta's cancellation policy by writing to them (by recorded delivery), but there was little I could do whilst they wouldn't act without a letter but didn't process the letters they received.0 -
I was told by a setanta sales rep that I could subscribe for a month, cancel by phone, then re-subscribe for another month whenever there was something I wanted to watch. I was told this would cost a one off signing on fee of £14.99 which I would only ever have to pay once, and then a further £9.99 per month whenever I wanter to activate my subscription. Yeah, in reality I had to wait a month, cancel in writing and if I wanted to re-subscribe I would have to pay another £14.99 signing on fee. A complete rip off. Have tried to get my money back as I was obviously mis sold this service but despite several letters, phonecalls and e-mails I am no further forward. Wouldnt go near this company ever again. One of the worst levels of customer service I have ever encountered.MSE_Martin wrote: »What's this about?
Many MoneySavers have reported problems trying to cancel their Setanta Sports subscriptions, so we've contacted Setanta's press office and asked what the procedure is.
It's one of the worse cancellation systems I've seen
Frankly once I read it, I wasn't surprised there've been problems, this is perhaps the worst cancellation system I've seen from a major company.
Outrageously, while you can call up and sign up over the phone, you can ONLY cancel in writing (paper, not e-mail) giving 60 days notice from your next billing date. The 60 days only begins from when the letter's received. This is something that anyone considering signing up and trying Setanta should bear in mind.
How to cancel
So if you want to cancel, jot out a quick letter as soon as possible including your name, address, phone number and Setanta account number (if you have one) to be sure. It's also worth noting down when you wrote and sent the letter in case of further problems.
Send the letter to the following address
Setanta Sports
PO BOX 182
The Quays
Newry
Co. Down
BT35 5AT
It gets worse...
If you've been having problems and have called up to cancel, Setanta admits you may've been told the wrong address to write to. It has assured us this is now the central point for all cancellation notices.

Martin Lewis,
Please, please, please, keep the reference to Setanta problems in your weekly email for the next month (at least!). The only way this company will change the way they treat their customers, is if it hits them in the pockets.
I have personally disuaded 3 friends from signing up with Setanta after pointing them to related threads on this site... People will not find this out by speaking to the company before they subscribe, it's only through sites like this that people can get the full picture and make an informed decision.
Keep the profile of this issue high over the coming month or so, a time when Setanta will be projecting new customers due to Premiership, England Internationals, and Boxing promotions - and perhaps we can make them take notice. If they could actually sort this out - I'd subscribe for a few months each year.
As it stands, I won't be subscribing again unless they do this - and I'll be telling others who are considering it to check this site before they do.0 -
I lost £50 to the the lies that they told me , now they want a letter to cancel and more money, how can they keep robbing people and getting away with it, Martin sort them out, name & shame them on TV!!0

lookin at other threads we must be the only people who have been this lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
After watching tonight's England game which was really poor picture quality (compared to other Sky channels) I have emailed them to ask what their official cancellation policy is. Although once I am ready to cancel I will just cancel the direct debit. Need to decide how much I want to watch England games.0

i was considering signing up for the football , glad i have read this thread 1st.
one potential customer lost here SentantaBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
When I tried to cancel, they couldn't "find" my account from my postcode or address. Three times this happened. I got round it by telling them that if my account didn't exist then I could simply cancel my direct debit. Suddenly, the account appeared.
Chancers. I'm not going back ever.0 -
Phoned to cancel, guy said ok (0191 501 3601)
Phoned to see when it would take effect, oh you're not cancelled you have to write (used Sunderland address)
Sent letter special delivery (worth the money), phoned to see they had received it and account was cancelled. Yes we will take one more payment and it is cancelled
Phoned again towards the end of the period just to make sure. Definitely yes
Phoned after the period quoted as we still had a signal. Oh it will go off exactly 30 days after the payment which was a few days away
IT DID!! :T to be honest we had a good service from them but no longer have a need for it. GOOD LUCK to ALL0 -
I cancelled by phone in March, the guy tried to give me better deals or just carry on till the end of the month, I said I just wanted to finish now. He said a grumpy "ok". 2 months later I'm channel surfing and still have Setanta and realize I'm STILL being billed.
I phoned, they said to write a letter, I did, asking for a refund. No reply, no refund, 3 months billing me without my permission.
I call this theft taking money without my permission. It's amazing how you can subscribe and be billed immediately but not get cancelled or refunded!
Expletives to them.
AVOID SETANTA!!!0
