Daily Mirror Xmas 07 free viewing for a month.
Too good to be true and it was , When I tried to cancel at the end of the free trial I was offered another sprat at half price for 3mths.
Caught hook line and sinker then tried to cancel again told they did not have the authority to cancel and gave me customer service number on hold for 35mins. Phoned again pressed for upgrade and directed within 30secs.
Told them I was cancelling but received same answer,
Contacted my credit card company but was told Sentana had to cancel not me.I was advised to give a months notice in writing and if it continued after that to contact my credit card.
June the 31st was my deadline , June 15th I recieved my first contact off Sentana to say that It was going up to £12.99 from July.and I had a months notice.
Contacted my credit card again and was told to ring them up if increase charged.
July no payment taken out over 6mths to cancel
Be warned Sentana is is only concerned in ripping you off.
Since then I have had offers from them but once bitten twice shy0 -

We too have had problems, signed up for setant via their website last August, I did it in my name (mrs) for the football, however when we came to cancel due to moving house this May i phoned to cancel and was advised that I couldnt due to the contract being in my husbands name. He has had nothing to do with setanta i signed up in my name its my bank account the dd came from, however the guy on setanta customer services told me because its through sky it was changed into my husbands name because our sky was in his name, argued with them for a while and eventually agreed to sent a letter to an address in Ireland with the 30 days notice (i had to send letter in hubbys name but forged signature as as they had never had anything from him they had nothing to go by)
Fortunately due to previous work experience in a bank I cancelled the dd straight away and apart from one letter to old address advising that dd has been cancelled and did we want to eturn we have not received any other letters, we are due them the 30 days notice monies but until they ask and we can send a cheque they are not getting anything.
I have also been able to disuade(sp?) friends from signing up via the BT vision offer currently on the go and will be pointing them in the direction of this thread.
thank you MSE for once again highlighting dreadful customer service if only there was some where we could forward this thread0 -
I took Setanta on a specail offer over last Christmas & New Year for £1. If cancelled before middle of January there was to be NO other costs. Even though I cancelled well before the date quoted they still continued to take the Monthly £9.99 and never returned even after numerous lengthy telephone calls and promises.
But I also took out a subcription for my Father who did continue the £9.99 a month payments via My credit card. But when he died earlier this year. I contacted Setanta to Cancel and they informed me that unless my father wrote to them telling them to cancel they would continue to make the charge to my credit card. I pointed out that it was impossible for a dead person to do as they ask but they said that was the only way to cancel.I had to tell my bank I had lost my credit card to stop them from drawing on it each month. And get replacement cards :mad:0 -
we got setanta about 12 months ago, 1 of the offers free for a month, then we cancelled, got offered 2 months for a cheaper rate etc etc, took that, then cancelled. was all straight forward enough,,, but they no longer take £ from our card, but weve still got setanta!!! are we lucky or 1 day are we going to be faced with a mega huge bill??? dont no what to do,,, b/f was mega happy but after reading all the posts im now worried0

I too signed up for the 2 months for £1 offer last November.......
What a nighmare!!!!!
They can have all the football and I would never return to Setanta!!!
They are a joke
I kept a word document with all the dates and facts that I added to every time I sent Setanta an email they had the facts, not that they ever replied........
So if you can be bothered to read it (Setanta obviously didnt) here it is.......
Its a bit longwinded and boring but it is the whole Setanta experience
24th November, Signed up for your offer of 2 months for £1 (to end on the 24th January) (BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER)
3rd December 2008 £1.00 taken
27th December 2007, Rang to cancel as in T & C @ 14:20 Chris customer loyalty team Sunderland’
(6. To cancel with effect from the end of the first 2 months ring Setanta between 26th December 2007 & 15th January 2008)
Offered 3 months for £5.00 a month to start after the £1.00 offer ended. (To end on the 24th April)
30th January 2008 £5.00 taken AND a random 58p DD taken???
30th January, Rang but no-one knew why or could explain so I just accepted this.
28th February 2008 £5.00 Taken
24th March 2008, Rang to cancel at 09:01 on spoke to the customer loyalty team in Sunderland giving the required 30 days notice and was made various offers but he still couldn’t explain the 58p random DD so I decided to cancel, was informed my last payment of £5.00 would be taken on Friday 28th March and could cancel my DD after this.
28th March 2008 £9.99 Taken
28th March 2008, Rang and on hold a long time, got fed up waiting so called bank to recall DD as in the DD Guarantee you made an error taking the £9.99 so I was guaranteed a full & immediate refund, and they also cancelled DD.
28th March 2008, Got through to cancellations eventually and found they had no record of my call on the 24th March to cancel my account after a 40 minute + phone call got told to ring customer services, Luckily I rang 0191 5013601 and this was a free call!!!
28th March 2008, Got through to customer services, after giving up first time then after another 45 Minute phone call to 08712 003322 @ 10p a minute , nothing was really sorted out was informed someone from head office will ring to sort things out.
In my opinion any calls I have had to make to Setanta after 24th March are not my problem.
I still haven’t paid the £5.00 for April
At the moment I owe £4.42 (£5.00 – 58p)
2 calls to 08712 003322 @ 10p a minute!!!
28th March @ 17:53 for 5 minutes = 52p
28th March @ 18:19 for 44 minutes = £4.44
Total cost of these calls is £4.90
I owe Setanta £4.42
Unnecessary calls to Setanta cost £5.15
SETANTA NOW OWE ME 73p!!!!
31st March 2008, Direct Debit of £9.99 returned to me by my bank as requested by myself.
31st March 2008, the promise of head office calling me today to sort out this mess never happened!!!
31st March 2008, No replies to my e-mails, I am not surprised!!!!
31st March 2008, Although cancellations & Customer services had no record of me ringing up to cancel my subscription when I contacted them On the 28th March, strangely I received an invitation to stay with Setanta for £5.00 a month. This letter was dated the 25th March, the day after I rang and cancelled my subscription. This is a bit confusing as you had no record of my cancellation on the 28th March??
8th April 2008, although you know I have cancelled you still send me a letter asking me to re-instate my Direct Debit. I must state again I am not writing or ringing your extortionate telephone lines, so contact me to sort it out!!!
9th April 2008, this is unbelievable, another letter this time suggesting it was an oversight that my direct debit has been cancelled, I can assure you it isn’t and had you even bothered to read the numerous emails I have sent or read the notes on my account regarding telephone calls you would see why.
9th April 2008, send letter to Setanta requesting this is sorted by the end of the month.
9th April 2008, keep getting calls from a firm called 2touch communications, after contacting them I find out Setanta have given them my details so they can contact me to try and persuade me to sign up again to their service – if that’s what it can be called, I request my details are removed from their dialling list.
15th April 2008, yet again contacted by 2touch communications, again I request to be removed from their list, thank you Setanta for giving out my details!!!
15th April 2008, got a text message from Setanta, Dear Customer, can you please contact Setanta Sports on 08712 004405 regarding your account. We look forward to taking your call – Thanks Setanta Sports.
16th April 2008, get the same text again!!
16th April 2008, I give in and ring because unlike Setanta I reply to correspondence, but get nowhere and very angry so hang up!!
17th April 2008, another text message from Setanta… this has a tone of urgency about it although you still wont ring me!! Dear Customer, can you please contact Setanta Sports on 08712 004405 it is urgent that we speak to you regarding your account – Thanks Setanta Sports.
17th April 2008 I send another email that will probably be ignored, just like the others that I sent on the 29th March, 31st March, 8th April & 9th April.
17th April 2008, rang 0191 5013601 (free luckily) @ 18:10 and spoke to Scott Fergusson (Sunderland) and he cancelled the £9.99 and it seems the matter is finished, did advise me that if I wished to return to Setanta that I would have to pay a connection fee, I did advise him this wont be happening.
18th April 2008, get another text message saying it is urgent that I contact customer services
18th April 2008, ring to confirm all is sorted and I am assured I owe nothing and my nighmare with Setanta is over
19th April 2008, Setanta viewing terminated
I did say it was a bit boring.........
5 months I wish had never happened:rolleyes:
I was lucky though.........
Now its 60 days notice only when they have processed your cancellation
But it seems the best option is dont use a credit card, and cancell the direct debit when you feel your notice period is up, Setanta might contact you, then again they might not :rolleyes:0 -
Thumbs down from me as well (cancelled, continued to debit, promised refund, never got it, promised refund again, never got it.......eventually gave up). I would never go back.0

So what's the consensus for the address to send the recorded letter to? Martin's one or the one in Sunderland?0

My husband signed up in February believing the telesales operator who said that it would be quick and easy to cancel when the football season ended. He was asked for his credit card details and foolishly obliged. First mistake! You cannot cancel your 'direct debit' on a credit card, so only use your bank card! Our provider is M & S + More, and were brilliant, they accepted proof of our attempts to cancel, which included an email acceptance from Setanta, and proof of two letters of cancellation being posted, and refunded our payments. We also contacted our local Trading Standards office. Thanks to the help we received from those mentioned, months later we are free of Setanta. Don't think that it is sufficient to write to Setanta; record the delivery and check that it has been delivered; apparently so many people are sending their letters 'recorded delivery' that the postie takes a chance and delivers them in a bundle without obtaining individual signatures. Belts and braces only with this sorry shower of a company! Setanta stinks to high heaven. Those who have been lucky enough to cancel without a problem are obviously in the minority. I apologise for the epistle, but I just want to ensure the message gets through.0
