matrix999 wrote:Yes, the O2 Sim Card can be bought seperately.
You can get one from the O2 Website for 99p
The following number can also be used but i'm unsure as to wheter it will work during the day but its worth a try 0844 484 0700 The number can be called from your Orange mobile but you should check with the Orange Operator on 100 as to the call charges per min for dialling the 0844 number.
Once dialled you will then be prompted to enter the number you wish to call, ie your mums number
Options I know of;
1. If you just dial the Oz number on Orange PAYG they will charge 40p per minute at all times to both mobiles and landlines.
2. If you just dial the number on Virgin you will pay 20p per minute at all times to both mobiles and landline.
3.As long as you have international bolt on, (free until January 10th-call 2425 from an O2 payg mobile), you can call from O2 to an Oz landline for 35p peaktime/10p offpeak.
It is worth using one of the free sims floating about at the moment,(theres another offer today), to set all of this up as at the moment you can get 50mins a month free for 3 months, offer open until Janurary 10th also.
(See post on this forum under ''freebies'' - from Muhomid about 250 free mins from O2).
Calls on O2 international bolt have a 25p per minute surcharge.
4. If you do have free minutes from O2 you can,(as I do), - dial 07744973333 - and then follow the instructions given and you should get the call through your free minutes.
5. If you are on BT you can pay £1 per month and get 5p per minute to landlines at all times. Call 150 to set this up.
6. On a landline use an access number then follow instructions - 0844 861 41 41 is one I have used but there are others.
This costs around 1-2p per minute.
If there are any other methods I would like to know too - so if anyone else has suggestions please share them.0 -

perhaps you are mixing up calling an Australian mobile from a UK landline, which costs 15p/minute, with what the OP actually wants to do
0844 calls are fairly likely to cost a different tariff to the ordinary rate; possibly the same rate as mobiles, and don't even think of dialling 0911 numbers."
I think, 2ax, that YOU'VE misunderstood. The website states"
"Making an international call from your UK mobile with My Mondo can cost you the same as from your landline..................""Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0 -
you can call from ANY mobile to Australia [using a 020 8 access number- which will either be free or a cheap uk call] with https://www.simplyonestep.com
you just ring 020 8497 3333 & at prompt just continue dialling your internat number...(simplyonestep-haha)
you rec a credit of £1.50 - confirmed via a text- & that £1.50 is charged to yr mobile bill.
Therrs no min charges nor extra conncetion fees... per second bill & quality is fantastic
The 020 84973333 number they give works (using your £1.50 creit) to EVERY country worldwide [diff rates] & AUSTRALIA is only 3p!!!(& oz MOBILE 19p) all incl VAT.
when u use up the 1.50 you either hang up or continuer talking & automatically get another £1.50 credit / debit etc....
Brilliant service that works for all network & PAYG etc..0 -
This is new to me. sounds interesting.
Do you just ring the number again when you have used up your £1.50?
3p per minute is certainly a good rate from a mobile to landline.0 -

I think you will find it impossible to ring an 0911 number from a mobile, unless you apply to remove the call barring for such numbers, and certainly not for 15 pence per minute.
Via the link you posted -Most mobile operators charge the same to call a non-geographic number (starting with 0844 or 0871) as your landline operator does.0 -

I'm a bit alarmed by the 25p surcharge you mention - can't find it.
In fact, if the bolt-on tariffs are correct, it could be possible to combine methods and use an O2 SIM for between 500 and 800 minutes of international calls in 3 months for under £13.500 -

yep... everey time you wanna make a call [using that https://www.simplyonestep.com service] you dial that access number 020 8497 3333 & at prompt interrupt& immediately dial yer destination..
it will tell you how much credit u have left from the £1.50..
when u reach end of £1.50 - u can either end call or continue speaking & it automatically gives u anothe £1.50 credit [chged to your mobile]
it makes it so easy & u do not have to buy pre-pd cards or enter Pin numbers or have connection chrges etc..
i use it & its great.0 -
Thanks for this info benji, but I don't understand how they charge you without opening an account?? Can you explain it to me, sorry I have a job getting my head around these things.
much appreciated.Shanni0 -
It's charged to your mobile phone in a similar way to a special text message (or ringtone, etc).0

You do have to add to the price the cost of the call from your mobile to the 020 access number, depending on how much it costs to all it could make the call very expensive.EG: if you were on Orange PAYG 24/7 Tariff 15p a minute plus 3p = 18p a minute.
Their are cheaper ways.
Shanni. What Orange Payg tariff are you on EG: Talk and Save, obviously what tariff you are on effects what it costs you to ring intl access numbers at peak rate.Once we know this should be able to point you to the cheapest way from an Orange PAYG phone at peak rate.0
