    Hi, folks.
Sorry if I've misunderstood this thread, but are you saying that Tescos have a policy of accepting money-off coupons even if you haven't purchased the items?
And beyond that, they'll even do it for competitors coupons?
    Crikey!
  • Hi Prowla, yes tescos policy is to accept without buying the product. however it is up to the individual store managers descretion as to wehther they want to. my local stopped them befroe christmas however I have just heard after xmas its back to accepting them again. hope this helps

    Yes, but...

...coupon newbies, be careful about jumping to conclusions about competitors coupons. For example you can't use a Sainsburys 60p off coffee (from their magazine), nor any other similar money off a product or range if it has a store logo on it from a competitor. Be careful as - annoyingly - these will scan at Tesco and an inexperienced cashier might allow them (wrongly).

Nor can you use Tesco logo coupons without buying the product (usually) as the till will beep 'no' for those.

The only competitor coupons Tesco will accept are those known as 'spend & save' vouchers (or conditional spend vouchers). That is '£x off when you spend £xx' vouchers (like the ones Nectar send out, or the £10 off £60 Waitrose one which was in the paper a month or so ago). They must be 'no-strings' conditional spend only, with NO product or range stated.

Some people have reported their Tesco accept M&S ones but the current ones don't fit with the Tesco policy as they are NOT no-strings conditional spend vouchers as they stipulate a range (food). My local stores don't allow them and they don't scan anyway.

Why was this thread with the poll closed:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1125873

Was it just set for a short time or something or do we have some Big-Brother style censorship at work, deciding that we can't have an opinion about the fact that:

Just wanted to let people know that I didn't have anything to do with closing the poll thread. I'm not sure if active polls can expire on their own or whether the mods must have decided to close it.

I'll PM to try to find out, cos it does seem like most of us want a workable solution here.

PS I'm happy to take over the running and regular updating of a new thread for 2009 (as long as R4pture is happy enough to hand over the reigns - I'm definitely not criticising his efforts - because they have been great - but maybe he just doesn't have the time required to keep a thread like that current?)

    Hello,

I went into Tesco in Woodford today and the supervisor told me that they would only accept one voucher if you had not bought any of the goods that the vouchers were for. She said this was a new policy introduced in the last three weeks or so.

I think it has come to the end for using vouchers for products you havn't bought. I guess the manufacturers are getting annoyed that it is diluting the idea of their vouchers. This is a real shame!!

I have been to Tesco's today. Shopping came to £35 and cashier merrily took my coupons - all of them. No questions, no 10% worth or anything. Ended up paying approx £22, excellent result. :T

The only problem is I have run out of coupons apart from the long dated ones and they only come to about £2 in total, so shopping may cost a little more next week.

i'd check with someone else, in a way the supervisor is correct it it only one coupon, but per manufacture.

The only new email sent out in December to stores that's been reported on MSE simply restated the Tesco coupon policy as we know and love it. It was posted by Hales somewhere on the Vouchers board...maybe someone can link it here but I couldn't find it when I looked...:o

As usual the wording was a little strange and easy to misunderstand, I bet that's what that store has done. But in essence it still says that there is no limit to how many different coupons can be used even if you don't buy the product.
