I am sooooooooooooooo mad

I went into Tesco's yesterday armed with my tesco's coupon policy and an email from tesco's customer services stating the same as the policy. I had recieved the Email only last week.
I had aprox £9 of coupons for an £80+ shop come to hand them in and I got the usual ''have you bought these items '' to wich I replied I don't need to would you like to see Tescos policy. She read it and then said I still don't think I can take them would you like to pay and then go to customer services and speak to them over the coupons.I said politely no thanks I would like to pay for my shopping here , using coupons that are within your policy and I do not wish to join two queues .She called for a supervisor and while waiting started talking to me , in a loud voice , about people abusing coupons in tescos for EVERYONE to hear as she was spreading all the coupons out in front of her .The supervisor came read both policy and email and said that is an old policy from last year it has changed now and you must buy the product. She said I am just not prepared to take them ( without even looking at the coupons ) I asked her to check with the manager and she refused saying she didn't need to .I asked her why she was saying different to what head office say and she just repeated she was not taking them .So I asked for her name and job title and left , without my shopping .

The whole thing was played infront of an ever growing queue and , unlike me , I was getting very embarrassed.

I came home phoned customer services and asked for the person who had emailed me and told her all about what had happened .They was far from happy and are getting intouch with the manager today ( only cos they was just finishing for the night ) .They even phoned me back saying that they will sort this out for me and contact me today .
Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make

I have just read this post and that is not what my email from head office says mine says SOME coupons may be refused at the discertion of the manager .In my case not all of them  . Customer services have been extremely helpful and again verbally told me that the coupons should of been accepted unless there was something actually wrong with it ie photocopy /out of date .

My local tescos sa's are told if it doesn't scan not too type it in. I agree the response is a bit harsh when we're all friendly here.

They always have a limit before requiring authorisation, but it doesn't seem consistent.... in my experience it varies greatly depending on the particular store and also how much you your total comes to.

I tried self-service today, for the first time. I normally prefer manned checkouts, as it doesnt look like you are up to something that you shouldn't be. The self-service staff seem to look at you very suspiciously.

Anyway, my fears were justified. I was watced like an hawk, and when i got to my third voucher, it said authorisation was needed. The cashier came flying over and asked if i had bought the items. I said i didnt need to, but the next two coupons were for items that i HAD bought , so he authorised them.

I had it planned, using the £2.49 boost coupon first, the mitchum £1.50 second, and so on, so i got maximum money off before it stopped me. I then had 2 coupons for items i had actually bought, ready in the other hand.

I explained that i didnt need to buy. He siad i did, and so i showed him the policy. He said it used to be on display in th mess room, but had dissapeared. He aske me for my copy, but i said no (it was the only proof i had that i wasnt doing anything wrong). Anyway, he disagreed with my interpretation of it, and said that it meant i can use one coupon per shop, without buying the item. I said that it was one of each coupon per shop.

He went to phone head office as i was leaving, and the disgruntled queue behing me sighed with relief.

It will be manned checkouts from now on, but self-service if i am just nipping in or fancy a snack, as he confirmed that it accepts 2 coupons without calling for an assistant.

Sorry to hear you didnt have any luck with your coupons. Personally what i would do is just go and try again and pick another SA. From my experience the coupon policy in MR T is very unclear for there staff so you probably just picked someone who was taking the safe route, and if you try again you will probably find another SA will take them.

    good luck

    john

I totally agree, go back and try again and pick another SA, or if there is another store close to you try there and see how you go.

Couple of weeks ago the SA wasn't sure if she could accept all of my coupons, told her what the head office policy was and she asked if I minded her calling her team leader over, which of course I didn't. Team Leader arrived and confirmed what I had said and what the HO policy says.

Popped in to my local branch again on Monday this week, young SA who said I hadn't bought everything I had a coupon for, again quoted the HO policy and told her about the Team Leader the previous week, she happily scanned the lot.

Currently my local Tesco are happy to take all my coupons, long may it continue.

Hubbs went to Tesco today to get loads of stuff for sons 18th.

He got to the checkout with his £100 shopping and £7 (Individual) int coupons, checkout guy said NO int coupons anymore so hubbs phoned me, told him to get the manager and so he did.

Manager Aggreed with everything Hubbs said and told the CA to scan them all, so they did  :j
