Hmmmm, yes and no! :rotfl:
There is a national policy, it is as posted earlier in the thread. They should take one of each coupon as long as they are in date, scannable and non-store specific. And they should take any conditional spend from the shops mentioned in the email posted by hales earlier in the thread.
But...not all stores follow the policy. Some don't know. Some don't care. Some have made a definite instore decision not to allow internet coupons (usually due to getting too may returned unpaid). And some introduce their own store limit, say 10% (maybe to keep the queues flowing and to avoid the paperwork involved in coupons).
TBH the Store Manager CAN make a decision not to allow coupons. But he cannot disallow conditional spends like the Waitrose one as it's an old Tesco policy which applies to all stores.
The thing to find out in your local is whether the Store Manager has made that decision, or whether the staff just don't know (in which case you can help them find out!). I just went in my locals with the info I could gather, and asked...and asked...and asked...! When some CS staff looked at me like I had 2 heads I asked them to refer to the Till Manager (who might be more likely to know the policy).
Failing that, then ask for the Duty Manager, even the Store Manager if need be, to find out if it's ignorance of the policy or a deliberate decision. Sadly if it's the latter you can't change their mind but at least you will know. At all times stay completely polite and have your info with you (print out the policy wording email posted earlier).
Be confident that as a customer it is OK for you to ask about this, it is supposed to be their policy after all!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Coupon-Mad, I wish you worked at Tesco, you know far more about their policies than they do! Thanks for all your advice and clarification.“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”:D0 -
Earlier this week at Tescos I tried to use a £5 off £50 spend co-op voucher after reading that the co-op were one of the listed firms for conditional spend vouchers. However it was declined as it didn't have a barcode and neither the cashier nor the supervisor knew how to process it. I queried this by e-mail with Dundee and got this reply.......
I'm very sorry that you were unable to redeem your Co-op voucher in-store. I can appreciate how disappointed you must have been.
I have looked into this and found that if the voucher does not have a barcode then the store cannot process the discount and therefore cannot accept the voucher. I do apologise for the further disappointment this may cause you.
If the voucher you wish to use next week does not have a barcode then the store will be unable to process the discount for this either.
However, we can accept other vouchers which do have a barcode on them.
I hope this information helps.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Can someone please explain to me about the sainsbury/waitrose etc coupons that Tesco take. I wasn't aware of this, so want to get my facts straight lol before I go and try and use any in there! Hubby often gets sent sainsbury ones? Any information would be most grateful.
Thanks guys.Never argue with a fool, they will lower you to their level and then beat you with experience.........!!!:rotfl::T0 -

For many years, Tesco has accepted conditional spend vouchers issued by other Supermarkets. I believe this was in fact ONLY Sainsburys at first, purely because it was only Sainsburys who used to issue them at the time. That's why some Tesco cashiers still think only the Sainsburys ones are OK.
In fact, conditional spend vouchers from any major Supermarket are OK in Tesco (plus in the new Tesco policy email posted earlier in this thread, it mentions Boots, M&S and the Co-op as well but I am not sure how that's gonna work as their barcodes are not compatible with Tesco).
Anyhoo, yes you can use an in-date Sainsburys or Waitrose conditional spend voucher in any Tesco, if you spend the minimum amount (in fact they will scan without meeting the minimum spend - but that's another story). Whether your local Tesco will actually know the policy though is pot luck, often cashiers know only about the Sainsburys ones and need to refer to a manager about anything else.
BTW, no other Supermarket-issued vouchers are acceptable in Tesco (so not the ones from the penultimate page of a Sainsburys magazine for instance). Nor can you use any conditional spend which specifies a product or range (so not a Sainsburys £5 off wys £25 on homeware/clothing/whatever, even if you buy the specified items).PRIVATE 'PCN'? I certainly appreciated everyones advice on this thread, re the initial rejection of the Waitrose voucher that I had. I too, was going to throw it away- however, I came on here & asked advice, was told to ring Dundee, which I did, & was told at first that they weren`t accepted, though the girl I spoke to offered to ask a supervisor- rang me back to say it was ok (& lack of proximity to a store was irrelevant), & to send the receipt & voucher to them for a £10 gift card, which all being well, I should receive soon:beer: A big THANK YOU to all who helped me- I love this forum! So anyone facing the same- go for it:T0

Sorry for the vague title, I'm not sure what to call this. I need a bit of advice please. I have recently got my grubby little hands on some money off vouchers and trotted happily along to Asda yesterday because I was under the impression they would let you use vouchers for 10% of your total spend even if you had not bought the product.
I was horrified to discover they stopped doing this on 4th November!
I remember there was something a while ago on here about how the Tesco policy was to let you use as many vouchers as you wanted, but a lot of the check out staff didn't know that and someone had a letter we could print off to tell them. Can anyone point me to that please?
Also can you tell me any other shops/supermarkets I can use vouchers for cereal without having bought the product? Pretty please?0 -
To get your answer go to Updated printable MOC (NO CHAT) thread, you can find it on 3rd row of the front page. Please bear in mind that it is a no chat thread. To chad u hv to come to this thread.
ON OTHER SUBJECT :-
Can a moderator tell me as to why my MOC post been deleted from (NO CHAT) thread? I posted a twinning 40p coupon valid till 31/12/08 but now it has disappeared from the thread.
Thank you! I'll go and have a look now. Can I just check this is still ok to use?
EDIT: Just had a look - that was back in April, and the note has no identifying marks to show it was generated by Tesco. Am I looking at the right thing?
Also, can anyone tell me what other supermarkets will accept these vouchers? I don't think Sainsburys will, will they? What about the cheapo places like Netto?0 -

Yes it's still Tesco policy

Tesco don't often issue anything to a customer about the policy (except an email), nor do they ever put any signs up in store (thank goodness). Only the stores get told and then customers find out by word of mouth such as on this forum. The wording on the NO Chat thread is correct.

Only Tesco and Waitrose, that's your lot. Nowhere else allows it. Waitrose policy varies from store to store but they should allow some mocs (typically 3 per transaction I have found).
Hope that helps, do take a copy of the policy post from here with you as back up, I still carry a copy. You don't need the policy on headed notepaper, it embarrasses them enough when they see you produce the wording from a forum when they have just denied all knowledge.
Be aware there are a lot of new/temp cashiers at this time of year and they may simply not have been told, so if your coupons are initially refused then don't be afraid to ask for a Supervisor at the till before paying. It is often just the cashier who doesn't know.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
