Are you serious? :rotfl:purple.sarah wrote: »They could cross roads but will probably just go the nearest place of shelter so taking them further away reduces the odds of them running right back into your house. Good for you letting them out not killing them.I never kill spiders if I can help it, I have a soft spot for them. But they won't come straight back to your house, they will choose the nearest one they find. I doubt they are that smart0

Install a little pedestrian light at about 2 inches off the ground, on your side of the road. Just paint the little red man on and they'll eventually tire of waiting for it to turn green and will go elsewhere.Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

They used to throw them in the front garden but after seeing one turn and run straight back towards the house, I now get them to take them over the road (it's a quiet street and my kids are all teens btw).
My DH reckons that won't make a difference - do they cross roads to come back do you think?C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinaterI dont suffer from insanity....I enjoy every minute of it!!.:)

purple.sarah is probably right though, they'll make for the nearest shelter as they're quite vulnerable to predators (i.e. birds) when they're in open country (good!). Can't you chuck them into the nearest woods or something if you don't want them killed?
Sorry, but I don't have any empathy at all with these things as they scare me rigid. This thread has actually made my heart race.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Can you imagine knocking on their door to complain :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I hate them too - if one finds itself in my house, it soon meets it's maker i'm afraid as I am petrified of the little !!!!!!.They look scary but they eat all the flies and annoying insects so although I wouldn't keep one as a pet, I'm still a little fond of them
They don't really though do they? If they were effective at keeping the fly population under control then I might have a bit more sympathy and not kill them but I can't imagine they dent the fly population that much, and besides, there are no way enough flies in my house to keep one spider alive, let alone many so what the heck are they eating :eek::eek::eek::eek:
I feel all shivery now0 -
I actually think they can, seriously. I also believe they know I am terrified of them, why else do they cross the ceiling to hover above my head, or throw themselves at me when I'm trying to get as far away from them as possible. I don't buy the fly argument either, I have never seen a reduction in the flies in my house. Spiders don't have qualms about killing, so why should I? I do try and capture and release, but sometime those big ones just have to go.
edit, they also kill butterflies, bees and moths or anything that has the misfortune to get trapped in their webs and what a horrible way to go. So I don't understand the lovey dovey affection for them. At least when I batter them with a shoe, it's instant.
And they eat each other. _pale_0 -
I`ve just seen one in my bathroom! It`s about 1.5 inches across! tried to catch it with a plastic tumbler but it quickly retreated behind the loo into an inaccessible spot. I`ll leave the cup out until I catch him in the open then he is going outside whatever the weather.0

That's so cute :rotfl:
Not often I find something to laugh at on a spider thread! :TLove the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0
