Tegenaria (posh name for giant spiders!) are the first sign of autumn for me. First one of the season last night, a HUUUGE one and I swear when I spotted him he sat there tapping a foot waiting for me to freak out! I'm more or less used to them now but I draw the line at them in the bedroom - they're likely to get a flying lesson out of the window if they turn up in there!

I keep large coffee jars and oxo granule jars all over the house so whenever I see a spider it can be caught and exiled to the bottom of the garden. I have tried the conker remedy. It didn't work for me, maybe they weren't fresh enough? There's no way I'd stamp on one, I'm terrified it'll run up my leg. Lol!

nope, sorry after years of being brave in front of children, I have reverted to being scared, very scared of spiders, its either hit with a shoe, or glass over till someone can come and remove it. Can't hoover up as think they might like it in there, and stay! so sorry again they have to die. I fully understand that if I ever go to live in spider land they may think the same about me

  • OH takes them outside and releases them in the garden. I make him walk to the very top of the garden, since he refuses to release them three streets away. Meany!
    Normal people worry me.
  • I came on here to reply...started reading the last few posts and bloody freaked out when I saw that pic of a spider above >shudder<

Its spider season folks - end august/september all the spiders come out to play - I have seen 6 in my house this week alone, mostly small one was bloody huge!
I hate garden spiders the most (you know, the brown stripey ones that have a web from one side of your garden to the other and you never see it until you walk into it). I will not go to my wheelie bin unless im armed with a broom!

I love em they are friends - keep the cockroaches at bay - and the odd fly. I used to hate wasps thinking they have no practical value - until I found out without them we would all be knee deep in dead insect carcasses - wasps are natures' bin men!
