Too many spiders

I can't see how this would work - unless you throw the conkers at the blighters.
I read that conkers are supposed to contain an oil or chemical that spiders hate.
Have a look here http://insects.about.com/b/2009/10/05/do-conkers-repel-spiders-prove-it.htm

Am I the only person who likes having big spiders around? They're useful , harmless and interesting (well I think so anyway). They certainly don't deserve to be vacuumed up or flung out of windows. If you really hate them please use the glass and paper method (and I don't mean hitting them with the glass!)0

Me too sleepless, I love spiders, they are such interesting beasties. We had one appear half-way up our stairs the other day - it was huge, the biggest I have seen for a while. I love seeing the wolf spiders in their webs in the autumn, and take great pains to preserve their webs when I am pottering about. We had to de-web the kitchen in the week, there was one with a mum and hundreds of babies - it had to be cleaned around to give them time to disperse.
I don't like killing anything for the sake of it - my view is they were here first, we are in their space, so all creepie crawlies get an escort to the garden, and OH thinks I am potty* the lengths I go to to - I even rescue worms off the street after rain! :rotfl:

I hate the horrible critters and living next door to a field they seem to think my house is a B&B. I have tried all sorts, tried the conkers last year yet one day found a spider sitting on one (sure the freaky thing was smiling at me!). I read somewhere about Eucalyptus Oil being a deterrent as they don't like the smell of that either. Cost me nearly a fiver yesterday for a bottle of it but I will try anything. So last night I diluted the oil with water and popped it in a spray bottle then sprayed and wiped round all the windows and doors. Have seen a few big ones today but not sure if its the smell driving them out or whether again they are taunting me. Will let you know if numbers decline in a few days or so.£2 savers club. No.90. I have trained myself over the years not to screech when I see one. I usually put a glass over it, go away and compose myself, and then slide a bit of cardboard under the glass and take the spider outside. They give me the creeps but I won't kill them. On the other hand, I don't mind them if they're outside.
Apparently they come indoors at this time of year looking for a mate. Ladies, they are looking for luuuurve, they are being romantic .....Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Sounds like you need a cold shower. :rotfl:
I must admit tackling the first huge hairy legged beastie is the biggest step. I'm a little braver every time. Its just the way they run so fast with those wiggly legs.0
