I'm scared of spiders most spiders we get huge ones in here so nothing i'm not used to seeing (we live just on out side of the country next to cornfields), I'm talking ones that are to big to sit at the bottom of a pint glass:eek: , other spiders i hate are think havest men spiders or daddy long legs (the spiders with teeny tiny bodies and big long legs**shivers**).
Please dont laugh here but I have one spider he isnt very big and hes lived here for a few years i call it lance I know its him because theres paint spekles on his back off painting the bathroom about 2 years ago lol, i just leave him alone as he doesnt bother me.
I have heard also conkers work but havent found a tree yet lol, I just get H to get a glass and chuck them out side lol wont kill spiders as i beleive its unlucky.
What colour did you paint lance exactly?? lol!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

that reminded me of the blue woodlice - my little sister had been sent oiy side to play painting, she ended up painting all along the joint of the shed & the path. It was only kids water based stuff & disapeared when it next rained, however woodlice dont like rain so we had blue ones for ages - they ended up stripy as they grew!:DI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
anyone wanting a gruesome and torturous method of killing a spider could always try my old trick. When I was a teenager, we lived in a house with a big overgrown garder full of ivy and trellises, etc so often got spiders inside... if I saw one, I would grab the iron (the old one kept for a 'spare'!) and get it plugged in, track the spider until the iron got hot, then fry it on the wall...
The best ones to do this with were the medium sized black stocky looking spiders (you know the ones?)...couldn;t have done this with the really big ones though. And mum used to get really annoyed with marks on the walls! (Also, I should point out that I grew up to be a reasonably well rounded individual not a sadist of any description! )Homer: I want to share something with you, Bart: The three little sentences that will get you through life. Number 1: Cover for me. Number 2: Oh, good idea, Boss! Number 3: It was like that when I got here.0 -

I guess many people read this thread to simply find solutions, and unfortunately there are just too many freaky stories that makes matters worse for some. One of my problems is that my room gets really warm so its best to keep my window open throughout the night and doors wide open for some fresh air. Of course, this is where the problem starts.
Here are some ideas that other people have suggested but the problem is that they don't prevent them...- Stamp on them - very messy
- Vacuum them - by the time you get it out, they're gone
- Get a cat! - I don't think anyone would get one just to clear spiders
So here's my little checklist that I plan to follow one after another until spiders are gone.- Dust/spring cleaning (free)
- Place conkers (free)
- Use lavender scent, I'm guessing air freshner/candles (£1 to £3)
- Mothballs (£3 to £5)
- Flea spray (£5 to £10)
- Spider sprays (ebay 'Amiral spider' - £10)
- Use ultrasound unit (google 'Pestxit' - starts from £25 to more advanced ones for £100)
If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please, please quote this message and add to it. I just want to get rid of them. Not all of stuff listed above works for everyone, so I'd love to get more advice from others.Big thanks!

slight deviation but I have heard several times in the past that we actually need spiders because they kill all sorts of other insects/bugs etc .
Just another angle to consider.
btw is Lavender really supposed to work ?
Thanks

I would suggest buying a cat! I am seriously arachnophobic and have one of two reactions upon seeing a spider, I either freeze in fear or scream very very loudly... I have two cats, since getting the youngest one (now 1yr old) I have not seen a spider in my home!! I do occasionally see him fighting things behind the TV/computer desk tho!

Im in a first floor flat and had my first !!!!!! of the year last night. I cant understand how they are getting in as the place is only 18 months old and I thought all the windows etc were gapless.
Im a pint glass and card type of girl, but after last year (we named them after a while, it really does help) they were in the living room (open plan with kitchen) and second bedroom but never in our bedroom or the bathroom thank god. Im now off to buy anything scented lavender and on conker oil if I can find any!
we did use conkers last year but they've dried out now. I think it was end of spider season, but there were definately less spiders (big black horrible ones!) around when Id put conkers everywhere!Mummy to two girls, 4 & 1, been at home for four years, struggling to contend with the terrifying thought of returning to work.0
