And to you jo1972!!
Well to your DD!!
We very nearly had 2 of us doing our maths GCSE in this household, DS1 is 13 and he had the option of doing his this year or next year in his school!! Bit young I thought, and I didnt want to put too much pressure on him at such a young age!! (DS1 has aspergers syndrome and is really smart!! I mean really smart!!) He earned a scholarship to a private school 40 miles away and he didnt want to go, as it was just after his dads accident!! He would have been travelling on buses for the best part of 4 hours a day, so he setteled for a local grammer school! I was so proud of him as he was the first one in the family to pass the 11+, (this is a test i dont agree with but he insisted on doing it):jIm going to be frugal:j:DIm going to be frugal:D;)Im going to be frugal;)Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:0 -
Just wanted to say what an achievement :j I bet you feel great now you've done it. Our toilet is in a bad way, left from previous owners, I have no idea what to put down it, tried bleach, descaley stuff, harpic tablets and value coke...nothing works
I think I'm gonna have to do the knife thing too _pale_ and like you I'm praying I'm not gonna crack the bowl
Jo we must have been typing at the same time-I just saw your post now. I got some toilet cleaner from Aldi that bragged about preventing 99% limescale initially. Ive used a bottle of that-mostly just letting it settle really close to the waterline and then brushing-bits have been flaking off constantly. Today I dropped a quater bottle of acetic acid in it (bought from boots) let it lie for an hour before flushing. Thats when I noticed the bits really fall of so I ended my misery with a bread knife. I think it was really the least bit of work in the whole process. I used the toilet gunk for a while before.
Goodness did any of you dream that you would ever have such a detailed discussion about toilet cleaning:rotfl:0 -

Mumoffour, how old is your DD? Have you tried giving her Evening Primrose Oil (if she's old enough?). I used to suffer bad with eczema growing up and into my teens, I was given tons of different lotions and potions but nothing worked. In my early 20's I had a patch test done which showed that I am allergic to lanolin and triethanolamine (which is in most body shop stuff and hair removal creams and sun creams). I saw a private doctor who said to me 'off the record' that one of his patients had been completely cured after taking Evening Primrose Oil after reading an article about it in a daily newspaper, he said maybe give it a go as it would do no harm. I took a high dosage everyday, I think I took around 8 capsules a day (the smallest dose capsule), 4 in the morning and 4 at night and my ezcema had practically cleared up within 3 weeks. It was amazing. I get it now when under stress but I know if it gets bad I just get a pot of Evening Primrose capsules and it should be under control within a week.

My brother gets his results tomorrow  I still remember what I was doing when I found out he had been born
Now I feel old. :rotfl::rotfl:
We've been househunting this week and failing miserably
RANT ALERT :
I've been phoning estate/letting agents about properties I've seen to rent. The results have been a house that looks like its been through a riots, and another house that was like a time warp in 60/70s decor and furniture and we've been itching ever since. Even the agent showing us the house said "don't move in round here, its awful"
Letting agents either "don't take DSS" or want, wait for it....up to 6 MONTHS worth of rent in advance  How on earth is someone on DSS supposed to come up with £2160 worth of rent for a house? The reason? The change in the way Housing benefit is paid - its now paid to the tenant and the tenant pays the landlord/agent and "DSS tenants can't be trusted" to pay up (but no offence meant to me as they're sure I'm honest)
I have rented for 8 years from 2 different private landladies, I can probably expect excellent references from both of them (no reason why I shouldn't), my mum has said they'd be guarantors, but because I'm DSS no-one wants to know unless I'm willing to pay £400+ per month in rent which would be pointless as the whole idea of moving is to cut my monthly costs and I'm only paying £368 for this house!
RANT OVER
Any ways, I really need positive vibes Thursday.... I've spotted a house near Wigan that is just £7 a month more than what I'm paying now (easily found with a little juggling and more walking to places;) ) so I'm just praying they take DSS (that doesn't appear to be a problem according to the advert). I WILL find the deposit! Its a lovely house and its close enough to ex for DD to seem him more often (bus journey away instead of £10 on the train) but on the opposite side of town to him so I'm not likely to bump into him in the local shop
( its here ), even better is the "acclaimed schools" bit though
IF I can get an appointment to view it I will go and see it and write a cheque for them there and then if I can. Its only been on the website 24 hours! DD likes the look of it as well which is a major improvement :rotfl:
First job tomorrow morning 9am is to ring themI'm even going to take the details up to bed with me so I can phone them as soon as I wake up or 9am whichever is later
I'm hoping its 9am.
So I'm starting the de-cluttering up again. I'm pretty sure that the house is reasonably de-cluttered already, but its one of those jobs that never really ends and I'm starting to feel like the walls are closing in on me due to the amount of stuff there is...
Right, I'm off to bed, once I've put the bread in the freezer :wave:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0
