One thing not to do - the Loy Nava dinner cruise up the river in Bangkok. Expensive and when it came to paying they wanted to take my credit card downstairs to swipe and wouldn't let me go down with them. I insisted that I wouldn't let my card out of my sight. Caused a right cafuffle, they threatened to call the tourist police, luckily we had enough cash on us to pay for it. I don't know what would have happened otherwise. Also the view from the boat wasn't very good, you had to bend down to see anything.
We found some of the best meals we had were from street vendors.
We hired a car for a few days and travelled up to the Surin islands where we camped for five nights on the beach. Warning: the boat trip is a bit rough to say the least and I was sick on the way out:o , nearly as bad on the way back. Have a great trip.0 -
No I didn't think it was too bad at the time I booked it;) . TBH there was much too much food and I felt it was quantity over quality. We had much better meals as we toured around. It was the attitude over the credit card that really spoilt it. Time and time again we're told not to let credit cards out of our sight (especially abroad) and this "attraction" was being run by a Brit as wellDoesn't seem too bad(as a tourist attraction) for twenty pounds(sans alcohol), but I'll take your word for it. Loy Nava
You could take a ride on the river on an Express Boat for 13 baht and grab the meal elsewhere for 300 baht per head.
.
We had very exciting rides on the Express boats:rotfl: :rotfl: !0 -
We have just returned from our 5th visit to Hua Hin
The place is great and virtually crime free and is a very safe place to be
while in Bangkok be sure to visit the night bazzar easily reached on the sky train.
Hua Hin night market is a must and also Cha Am night market on Wednesdays
Good places to eat in Hua Hin are the restruants on the piers on the seafront
and the steak restruant in the night market

Please please don't go to the Tiger Temple. The way they keep, drug and train the tigers is soooo cruel. Everything about the place is cruel.
Please don't go elephant trekking either - they repeatedly beat and cane the elephants to train them.0 -
Donnies tips for the airport taxis are spot on (wife and I, 8 trips over the last 10 years to Thailand on holiday, love the place).
In Bangkok, get a day ticket for the Skytrain and hop on and off in air conditioned comfort to explore all round the centre of Bangkok.
It depends on how liberal you are, yes there are places such as Soil Cowboy Soi Nana etc. If your husband was to go there on his own, he would be pestered to death. Go as a couple and its fine. You can sit at a bar and watch the "wildlife" go on all around you! Mai Pen Rai as they say over there to excuse everything
Was Po temple - remember that the women are not allowed to show legs, or the outline of legs (you can borrow Sarongs to cover up at the entrance), wear respectable tops when visiting any temple. Please do not touch any priests (dressed in orange robes - the poor dear will have to scrub himself senseless for weeks!)
The tallest tower in Bangkok is they Bayoke (pronounced Bay oak), couple of hundred Baht will get you a ticket to the top (88 floors) for great views all round the city.
We went for dinner at the restuarant at the top of the Banyan Tree, Vertigo Grill and Bar. Its on floor 70 odd and the bar "hangs" over the edge! Its superb. Not cheap, on a par with a posh UK restuarant but for a special one off its unbeatable.
5 thumbs up for TripAdvisor from me too
We use it all teh time for all holidays and put up trip reports as much as we can. 0 -
We have been and come back but thanks for the tips anyway, we did go to the Tiger temple and we thought the tigers were drugged, they certainly didn't behave as tigers should.
The whole place was a lot more expensive than we thought it would be, food and drinks in both hotels were London prices.0 -
Nearlyrich, sorry you didn't get the tip in time! Yes, the temple is the one of the cruelest places to wildlife. The tigers are left de-hydrated hungry and doped. If you go again visit the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand - they rescue these animals and keep them in their natural environment as much as possible. The elephants is get treated the worst, but then again, the primates that you get your picture taken with, normally the whole family have been killed to keep that one animal for tourists, when it's old enough to turn wild, they just get killed. WFFT.org.uk is well worth a look.
Sorry to harp on! Subject close to heart!0
