Four times in the last few years. Sheesh....then maybe I should bow down to your superior knowledge.

There was me thinking that sixteen years of travelling to and from the region might give me at least a little more insight than a story clipped off the Internet.

The fact that this year alone I have been here for more than six months....I can see that counts for nothing.
Clearly you think that your four times in Thailand over the past few years supercedes my knowledge.

I won't attempt to dissuade you from your belief, but could it be that the guys are hypnotised by their lack of control of their genital areas. Somehow letting it take control of their upper brain?
    Just a theory.
By the time they've come to their senses, they are often stuck in undesirable situations.

Jees, what did I say to offend you, Donnie? :eek:I'm deadly serious about how dangerous Thai women are. The OP's about to go to Thailand, I'm warning him of a very real danger. Are you saying you've never heard about this? Don't take my word for it, search Google. Here's just one story I found: http://www.knapsacktreks.com/los/love.htm

And for your information I don't drink nor do I go out with bar girls, but nice try. You don't own MSE, Donnie, but congrats on your attempt to talk down to people and throwing out accusations of trolling.

Back on topic, I've been to Thailand four times in the past few years. On business and on holidays (SE Asia route). This black magic thing is a very real issue in Thailand. I've never been in that situation, thank god, but I have seen others, first hand, who have been badly affect by this type of hypnosis.

Don't get me wrong, Thailand's a beautiful country with plenty to see and do. Just be careful, that's all I'm saying. ;)

Don't get involved in any card games.

Do use a meter taxi from the airport unless you have transport arranged. If the cabbie says his meter isn't working get out and hail another.

If you smoke don't take more than 200 ciggies each. Penalties for smuggling cigs are quite severe.

Do go and see the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Keo (the Temple of the Emerald Buddha).

Wat Traimitr is worth a visit to see the Golden Buddha - solid gold and weighs over 5 tons.

Go and have a drink or a buffet meal at the Oriental Hotel - reputed to be the best in the world.

If you're there at the weekend got and visit Jatujak market in Saphan Kwai.

If you haven't organised a transfer to your hotel, just pop outside to the official Metered Taxi rank (If you are unsure where this is, pop downstairs to the Tourist Police stand at door #7. Just ask anyone for Tourist Police). Anyway, they will direct you to the Metered Taxi rank.
What will happen there is that you will state your destination to the man at the desk, he will write it down on a chit and hand it to the taxi driver. He will also take a note of the Taxi drivers number plate or licence number.
There is a 50 baht airport charge for taxis from the official rank, but it's worth it for your piece of mind. The trip will be metered and will be unlikely to be more than 500 baht(Your hotel is a bit out of the way).

Remember the earlier advice. Ignore or smile politely and ignore any Thai who speaks to you out of turn. MOST of the time they will be attempting to pull the wool over your eyes(some foreigners are in on the scams too).

Any questions, post here before deciding on any big purchases.

Pay bills with your CC. Use your DC for cash withdrawals only.

Just so you know, the usual cost of a trip to HuaHin from Bangkok is around 2500 baht(40 pounds) or 4500 baht(73 pounds) round trip(that's what the Limo service that I use charges anyway).

Good tip thanks, my usual response would be to have a chat I will ensure we look like we know where we are going at all times....

We have transfers included in the package we put together but it's good to know how much is the right rate for a taxi, you can get royally ripped off in airports I know. We have also booked a couple of private trips to temples etc and the transfer to the second resort is by private car, we are told the scenery is stunning;)

They can't shock me I have been to Beijing LOL I am so looking forward to it I can't wait thanks Chris and all for your replies

We usually take a small amount of cash then use Nationwide cards abroad we have never used Traveller's cheques even when cards were not as widely used.....

I presume visa cards are widely accepted and you can get cash out of machines like you can in most places ????
