I have received many a mailing from them but I just phoned them up and explained I wasn't interested. The advisor was very charming and fully understood. No doubt your way relieved some of your frustration and gave the staff in Vanguis's postroom a laugh. Myself I prefer the more professional approach. However I have been known to adopt a somewhat less than adult approach on this site when something has really angered me.

Having had a few credit problems in the past, I find it very difficult to get mainstream credit. I started off with a Capital One card at £200, then £400, £600 and now £800. About four months ago, I applied for a Barclaycard Initial following a posting on this site, which I got with a £260 limit. I travel extensively around the UK and Europe on business, and as a freelance consultant I invoice my clients four weekly. So a credit card is invaluable to me. But driving 40,000 miles a year, staying a miniumum of 10 days a month in hotels, booking flights, hotels and car hire does use up some cash I can tell you.
So, I applied a few weeks ago for a Vanquis card. To be honest the APR doesn't bother me as I ALWAYS clear the balance each month. I have been accpeted with a £750 limit at 29.9% apr, broadly comparable with Capital One and Barclaycard Initial. OK so there is a £19 fee, but this is a small price to pay for the convenience.
My point of this posting is to explain to critics of Vanquis (whose customer service has been exemplary I may say) is that some of us need their facilities. If used prudently it offers a solution for the 'financially excluded'. If you have a good credit record, then do your best to maintain it, and you won't need the like of Vanquis. But for those of us who have, for whatever reason, suffered financial difficulties in the past, then at least we can have the option to use them.
On a final note, a credit card for flight tickets (not a debit card) gives protection to the consumer. Plus has any one ever tried hiring a car abroad without a credit card? It is nigh on impossible, without leaving a substantial cash deposit.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I've heard some good things about Vanquis, particularly about how helpful they are. i mean, it's obvious that they're only for people who have had trouble getting other cards.
Anyway, the rates on their website are 39.9 or 29.9%, so could be as good as the Capital One or Barclaycard for people with no credit rating. as this is me, does anyone have an opinion as to which is best out of this lot assuming i was to get vanquis' lower rate?
anyone who's interested, when i looked you can apply on their site https://www.vanquis.co.uk

Wow! They dropped £19 annual fee and you can apply online now! If you pay balance in full it is better than Capital One, which can ask you to pay a deposit.0

must admit im a bit sick of these people who have impeccable credit/high paid jobs etc moaning about a credit card that obviously isnt aimed at them...what happens when it hits the fan and all of a sudden, due to no fault of your own, you dont have such a perfect life and you find your only option is to start repairing a rubbish credit file, bit by bit, with the only lenders willing to take you on. Not so smug now are ya? Some people are not as lucky as others in this world, remember that. (exception is of course the blatent 'life is for living' type!)
when marketing, sometimes if a person lives in an area that has a high percentage of the vanquis demographic eg people with adverse credit, then its likely you will recieve a mailshot too. just put it in the bin! if your a man and you recieve a flyer for tampons, do you call the company and give em abuse? not really...
I think these cards are a blessing...really low credit limit, full visa, interest rate shouldnt matter cos if your repairing credit, you dont really run up debt!
I dont agree with annual fee. thought those got abolished years ago!Debt Free Since September 2005!

I've just checked out their loan calculator and it quoted me an APR of 365% for a £500 cash loan paid back over 31 weeks.Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
