Well some people may have been glad to receive this application. Were you aware they are now reporting would be customers to the credit reference agencies who behave in this way and I have been reliably informed this may affect your ability to get further credit.

Perhaps you should have taken the advice of Niteflyer.

What are you talking about? You are telling me that if you send an application form back to a company as you are not interested in their card after you have defaced that application form they can then inform the credit reference companies and this affects your ability to gain further credit?

Dont make me laugh. I can just see it now, i ring Barclays for a loan -

"sorry sir, we cant give you a loan as Vanquis received your application form back last week but you had chosen to deface it, that was a bad move"

Go and think of another old wives tale for us please, they are funny!

People using Vanquis and the like are the sort of people who whine and moan when they get into more and more trouble, "the banks and credit companies just kept giving me more and more money"

WOW what a glaring sweeping statement!!!

Get proper facts to justify this statement please!

I have a Vanquis card..I do not moan or whinge about my debts OR blame 'the banks etc' for lending me money....I applied for it...I spent it therefore I owe it!

Get off your self-imposed high horse and get a life..open your eyes and look around....you can't pigeonhole people as easily as that!

But realistically looking at your comment....you only did it to create antagonisim here...Gosh aren't you the clever one!

No i didnt do it to create antagonism but thank you for trying to explain my reasons anyway.

You have a Vanquis card and you realise your commitments to that card and the money spent on that card, however the vast majority dont.
They get themselves into debt, they then cant go to the mainstream lenders. so what do they do, lets go and get another credit card where the interest rates are even higher and get more into debt. Sensible choice.

Im not on any self-imposed high horse I'm just stating my opinion, whether you agree or not does not matter. We are all entitled to them unfortunatly.

Of course we are entitled to our own opinions, but sweeping statements like the one you made just made you look narrow minded in this case.

I agree that healthy discussion is good for the soul, and I did not mean to sound high and mighty myself last night...you post was a bit of a red rag to a bull, and the words flowed out of me! I felt the compulsion to write the other side to the viewpoint that you have.....not everyone that has debt blames the lenders.

Anyway.....off to pay my Vanquish card in full ...so avoiding the interest charge ;) :rotfl:

Indeed! What an ignorant and arrogant post from someone on MSE. I am NOT the sort of person who does whine and whinge at all - I am not in trouble. The debt in my signature is my 0% student overdraft that I am saving up to pay off before the 0% ends, and I do not take kindly to people who make sweeping statements when they clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

    What a *****

What an intelligent response, I bet you even put on your Burberry cap to fire this one of to me!!

I didnt say you were whining at all, dont actually remember you being involved in the conversation until this point when you decided to jump on the bandwagon and fire a message off telling me what a ***** I am. Well done, i hope that makes you feel better and that you can sleep easy tonight now knowing you put me in my place!! I'm not interested in the slightest whether you take kindly to my comments, i dont take kindly to you calling me a ***** but hey life goes on.

You say i dont have a clue what I'm talking about, well it does not take a brain surgeon to work out that people using Vanquis cards are not the best with money, if they were good with money then they would be using the mainstream lenders. Big deal being what?

If you dont like what I post then dont reply, simple as that. Im sorry if i offended you, will try not to let it happen again in future.
  • I read the post above about Provident, and then out of interest I looked at what a loan of £500 would be if I paid it back over 31 weeks. I nearly fell off my chair.

    Loan amount £ 500.00
    Weekly repayment £ 25.00
Total amount payable £ 775.00 Typical APR 365.1%
    :money: = LEGEND

I havent upset you have I? I dont see why a screw balls comments would offend you in anyway.

It may have something to do with the fact that the information you have given with regard to the credit scoring scenario is complete fiction?

I've just been reading this thread to pass a bit of time whilst relaxing my tummy after eating a big Sunday dinner and thought I'd give my opinion on the mini battle that seems to have reared it's ugly head.

I am one of those people you talk about : no debt, high income, plenty of credit cards from mainstream lenders etc. so I am not giving my point of view as either someone who uses Vanquis or needs it (hope that doesn't sound patronising, sorry if you take it the wrong way)

But, and it is a big but! I do appreciate in life things don't always go according to plan and sometimes life lands a blow that destroys your life, your finances and your credit. I do feel for people who have no facility to get mainstream credit. For me, it's difficult to imagine a life without some form of credit. I pay all my shopping, petrol, sundry spends on a credit card and this stops me having to continually go to cashpoint machines and also avoids the risk of having cash stolen. Also, credit cards enable purchases over the internet and offers you 'protection' if something goes wrong with your purchase. Therefore, I cannot see how I could live in todays world without a credit card etc.

I have watched many a documentary on the TV showing people who are financially challenged due to death, redundancy or illness (non of which is their fault!) suffer bad debt and the loss of availabilty to use mainstream credit. They resort to selling their basic necessities in pawnbrokers and the like.

I think the Vanquis card is fabulous for someone trying to get back on their feet, re-build their credit history or even just have a chance to learn how to use credit to their advantage rather than to run up debt and abscond.

I 'touch wood' will hopefully never be in a position to have to use a Vanquis card but if ever my life took a downward turn I would grasp with both hands a Vanquis card rather than go to a loan shark or have to beg, steal or borrow to re-build my life. Handled well I see the Vanquis card as nothing but a benefit to someone trying to re-build their credit history and there should be no shame for any user of the Vanquis card. The interest rate is high, but I can see Vanquis's point with that. People who ask for one have had debt problems before, they have defaulted or not paid. They are taking a risk with all their customers. Like a few of you have said, if you pay up in full when your statement comes in, your won't get any interest charges so why let it be a problem to you? If you abuse it and get charged lots and end up further in debt, you don't deserve the chance they gave you by giving you a Vanquis card in the first place.

    Ember xx
