I got my photo at the weekend after hounding her all week to send a picture msg lol. She phones every night inbetween ironing her kit and room and block jobs. :rotfl: im glad about ur sons flights seems silly all that journey! my daughter is in Pirbright then she goes onto Fareham for phase 2 she is going to be a monkey(thats her fathers words) lol. Yeh should start or own group up  . She is looking forward to her leave in 5 weeks her dad and her granda are going to parents day to see wot they have gotten up to! I cant go cant get the time of work as i work in a primary school so only school holidays for me altho i will be going to her pass out.:Thi pollyanna 78.
Its nice to hear from other parents of trainees.
I hope I wont get "the phone call". I had a little chat with ds before he left and he said he would stick it out no matter what. So that is just me worrying, I am sure this will be less as time goes on.
His journey wasnt so bad after all, again just me worrying and him. The army have said he can fly back home next time because he now has photo i.d. Two planes and home in half the time. We live 4 miles from airport so hell be home quick not missing any leave he gets.
He got his uniform yesterday and was impressed he was especially impressed with the gas mask. I can't wait to see him wearing his uniform, not the gas mask:rotfl: .
Is your daughter at Winchester too?
Does she ring often?
WE should start a little club parents of trainees.0 -
I think ill have to nag for a photo too. I bet your so proud and Im sure your daughter looks ever so smart .
Dont think ill get to parents day too expensive from here. i feel a bit sad about that but I will be at the passing out/off parade.
I'm a bit jelous as they all sound like they having an exciting time.
keep in touch let me know how the parents day goes.lots of small stepswill get you a long waybsc 1400 -
Lou its great to hear he's having fun and settling in....he's going to be very busy for a while.....but thats good for him as it will fly by
I don't think he will be so excited about his "gas mask" once he's been in the chamber!!! where he will meet with a lovely substance called CS gas (oh i can see it now) ask him for a photo of that event!!!
Another tip for him (make him look extra smart) is when he is doing his ironing....turn his combats inside out and run a bar of soap (unscented) down the creases (remember INSIDE not on the outside) then iron as normal (so turn them back to normal) and it cause's the soap to stick and make the creases as sharp as razors......looks very good (he can do this to all his kit but use normal soap!
Also when bullying his best boots (IE polishing them) use a couple of layers of brown polish then a couple of layers of black polish and so on. this gives a deeper shine
Use the shame coat hangers throughout his locker (looks better)
Hide an airfresher in his locker (make sure its HIDDEN)
Bull the bottom of his boots (looks like he's paying attention to detail which they love)
On room inspection day turn his mattress over (doesn't sag)
Use his boot brushes to clean his beret
DON'T bother with a clothes brush use tape instead to remove fluff etc
Attention to detail is the key.....they will look in every nook and cranny to catch him out trust me (remember these guys have seen and done it all)
If he is not very good at one thing but good at another then share the work load with someone who is good at that and so on....
Always carry a small notebook and pencil (pen is useless in the rain)
Try and keep one set of combats as his best! makes life easier when on parade (this is hard to do but worth the effort)
As soon as he gets something out of the laundry IRON IT that night.....he will be laughing in the long run
if i can think of any more i will let you knowIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
all the tips are great. and anything interesting i am passing onto my partner who is doing his IOT for the RAF. he is 5 weeks in and i got a very down depressed call on monday and a txt questioning why he is doing it. but just reminding them that its just the training and "playing the game" is what they want. back to right as rain now just exhausted and glad he has most weekends off now to get extra sleep. if he can pass on any info to me to post regarding any tips from an officer point of view then will get him to post. lots of anal things like coathangers all spaced 7cm apart and shoes a certain distance from the edge. things like this. but might not transfer across the services. Glad that ur son is getting along and his mum and i are getting on a bit better than expected me being the worst lol.0

My son is doing very well. I have not had the I want to come home phone call. A few of his new friends want to leave but not him.
He is on a trip to Belgium just now and texted me to ask if I want some Belgium chocolate yum yum. I love the ary having trips lol:j I get chocolate
The only thing he asked asked for me to post to him is blutack and sweets, i.e. mars bars he says they are very expensive. 75p each
Every time he rings now he is loving it. He is very tired but still happy.
My daughter is the opposite. She misses him more than I ever imagined. She keeps sleeping in his bed and is writing to him alot. She has become very cuddly and childlike.
On the good side he may get home for the weekend if they can arrange the transport that wont take 2 days to get home.
The pane doesnt always tavel all the way so it might be a few trains (sleeper train) a bus and a ferry.
I got a photot of his troop they look ever so smart and what a lovely photo it is too.
I am missing him I've had a little weep but on the whole I'm so very proud he is doing well.
I hope you daughter is enjoying it.wanting to win a wedding:p
