I was actually negative on Berlin...its horrible !!!!!!, Paris overpriced and over rated, Manchester.............the pits as is Liverpool and Birmingham, sorry but London tops the UK, pleasure to visit, but by resented by ENVIOUS northerners, I was born and brought up in the north (Yorkshire) and learnt from first hand experience on just how much northerners hated London and Londeners.

We don't hate Londoners in Leeds (or at least no-one I've met does)

...we hate Manchester too much to be bothering with London, and anyway "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"... :rotfl:

    Now, now folks....

I live in West London (Acton), which is supposed to be up and coming but there's a pool of vomit every other corner and the amount of spit on the pavement must be a bacteria breeding heaven, and rubbish might be cleared or not, depending on how the powers that be feel when they get up in the morning.

That said, if you only go to the West End or posh areas such as Knightsbridge or Belgravia, there is certainly no rubbish to be seen and all is squeaky clean. After all, we would not want the rich and powerful living in squalor, or the tourists see filth, would we?

London is run by many councils, and according the areas under their jurisdiction they perform their public services.

I agree that there is much to do in London, there are loads of theatres, cinemas, galleries, museums and on and on, and also lots of free events to attend. Never a dull moment.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Glad you said that.. only decent thing about Berlin is the Old Emerald Isle Irish pub.

I only visited London, I don't live there. I live down in clean quiet beautiful Cornwall. But for a day out I liked London. May be it's just the availability of everything. I mean there are fast food and coffee shops everywhere. Harrods is fantastic (can't afford to buy anything), I imagine however that living there could be another story. But I am looking forward to another visit in Dec. Christmas or is it 'winter' lights and all.

I fully agree with this. London for a day or weekend is great if your just seeing the sights. Try living there. The classrooms are 70% non English speaking children. The crime level there is so bad that no one even bats an eyelid when they witness one. The cost of day to day living is 30% more than anywhere else. People have no matters, never say 'excuse me' and push you out of the way instead.

Of course, they may all write to a higher standard of English ;)

So 70% of all classrooms are comprised of children who don't speak English? Do you have a source for your statistics that appear to be plucked out of thin air?

The crime levels are so bad that "no-one bats an eyelid" when they witness one? A bit rich given what Londoner's had to go through after the bombings in July?

We're all just rude and push everyone.

And which crime-free, totally welcoming, completely English-speaking, 100% friendly piece of Shangri-la do you inhabit? :D

I couldnt resist rising to this one!

Oh honestly, what a load of nonsense!

London has 11 million people in it there are bound to be a high percentage of crimes, now pro rata the actual crimes that occur in London into per capita and does it really have more crime than anywhere else? Nope!

I have parents who were born and bread in London (Primrose Hill, and if any of you are visiting London, go there the views from the top of the hill are stunning). I was born there too, then lived in Marylebone and Farringdon, and I can honestly say that I have never had any crime against me, or anyone I know and most people I do know both live and work in London. Nor have I ever seen a crime to not bat an eyelid at. I wonder whether your comments are really based on any personal experience, as it sounds like it is more based on Hollywood's gangster world if you ask me!

Of course there are areas of London which are less desirable, but go to any city or town in the UK and you will find exactly the same thing, it is certainly no more prevalent in London than any city Ive ever been to.

The really amusing part of any comments about London being full of rude people, is that I bet anyone living the UK knows someone who moved to London at some stage. London is full of temporary residents from all over the UK and the world for that matter, so why is it that those lovely polite well mannered people become absolute ogers when they get to London...Well they dont do they!! Of course people rushing to get lunch or rushing to meet people from work are not going to stop any random person in the street and start a conversation are they, people are busy. But most are polite at work, polite when they serve you and polite when they are introduced to you. What more can you ask for, I for one am very pleased that I don't live in a street where my neighbour just through the coincidence of living next door to me becomes my best friend!.

Actually I spend almost every weekend from friday to monday in London in the area called Stratford with a man who has lived in Stratford or surrounding areas for 40 years. I am merely repeating what he has said. Before you make a comparison why not spend some time living in a different place. Then you will see that in comparison London is a dirty, stinking hole and the only people that defend it are the ones who have never experienced living somewhere better and are sore about it.

    ... and YOUR opinion is?

Oh and why choose the country's poorest borough (Newham) to be representative of London? There are others, you know!
