Yes, I picked up on of those earlier this week.
After baking a couple of breads I'm extremely happy with it and really surprised how easy it is to bake good bread with this machine. I was originally slightly worried after reading on here about the mixing thingy sticking in the bread which hasn't happened yet. Overall it has been really easy to get the bread out of the tin and the bread tastes really nice. Well worth the money!0 -
Hi all
Got my SD256 at Comet recently (well Comet online) and am sooooo pleased with it. I have only read part of this thread but will catch up on the whole thread sometime but wanted to thank you all for sharing your tips, etc!
If anyone else is looking , and can find stock anywhere, Currys have the 256 for £62.97.0 -
I bought an SD 256 last week. I made one basic white loaf, which was lovely, then got brave, and wanted to try a seeded loaf.
I set it for "bake" and "raisin" and it had a 45 min countdown. It beeped after 45 mins, I added the seeds...then nothing happened. The countdown had gone down to zero so it looked like it was finished but all I had was a lump of dough and some seeds.
I tried pressing start/stop but nothing happened. I ended up turning it off and on again and it seems to have gone into a rest phase and is counting down from 4 hours.
Will this be alright? Am I going to end up with an edible loaf? How should I have put the seeds in? The manual is less than helpful, it just says to put them in, but then what? Do you literally sling them in and shut the lid? Will the countdown re-set itself?0 -
If anyone's looking for a cheap slicer, there's one here.
I've been looking for a cheap food slicer for a couple of weeks and spotted this one today at Tesco Direct here
It's only a fiver off, and I can't say if it's any good or not, though reviews are reasonable.
You can get free delivery to some stores and I used Topcashback too.0 -

Sorry just seen this, yes it confused me too. But yes, you just add them and shut the lid. It gives you a 5-minute 'window' to add, then resumes whatever it was doing. It's all so quiet and non-eventful it often seems as though it's not working:)0 -

I had a Morphy Richards for about 6 months. I bought it from a charity stall for a tenner and wanted to be sure it would get used. I haven't bought a loaf since:)
It was fine, it did make bread, but it needed kind of nursing, the recipes needed tweaking, etc., and although miles better than bought sliced bread, not perfect.
When I discovered Panasonics were suddenly available relatively cheap I got one (the MR went immediately on freecycle) and yes it's wonderful, definitely worth the extra. I got the basic SD256. I usually make the smallest size loaf as that gives the best sized slices, everything I've tried has been wonderful. Our usual loaf is a mixture of wholemeal and malted grain, but we've also had white loaves, white & wholemeal dough, pizza dough, raisin loaf, all sorts.
It's very quiet too, and the paddle only very rarely gets stuck inside the loaf.0 -

I bought a Cookworks one first of all to see if I would use it. I did , then got a Panny. When I needed a new tin, I got put off by the price and got a Morphy Richards. I only used that for a few weeks before I got cheap Panny again. The Morphy Richards did the job, but the bread was much better in the Panasonic. I'd go for Panasonic every time now, but my niece bought a Kenwood recently and I would say that bread was as good. As they've brought out newer Panasonics recently you might find some old stock cheaper. I paid £55 for a 256 a couple of months ago0 -
Diflower, thank you! I did suspect that I was over-complicating things as usual...
The loaf turned out fine by the way, not sure what I managed to do but it looks as though it was the right thing!0
