    Hello

I had the same decision to make a couple of days ago. From what I understand the main difference between the 2 models is the more expensive one has a seed and nut dispenser. I'm not sure that warrants the extra money and also if that is actually the case maybe it also has other features but I decided to plump for the more expensive as if I bought the cheaper one I thought I may wish I'd gone for top one. So to be on the safe side pushed the boat out.

I bought via nectar although quidco is an option too from comet. Had an offer of breadmakers and came to around £78. She a few posts back!

Can't wait for mine to arrive.

I think the other difference is you can't bake rye bread on the cheaper one.

AFAIK the only difference in models is the raisin dispenser and I think you only get the rye padle with the more expensive model.

Personally I really like having the raisin dispenser as I usually make bread either overnight or when I'm out in the day so to make fruited bread or bread with seeds is really straightforward.

I bought the one with the raisin dispenser, and I wouldn't be without it. Much more convenient. Rye bread was interesting, but not something I'd bake every day.

Can I add my vote to the votes for Lidl flour. I think the difference is that the Lidl flour has Vitamin C added to it already, while other flours don't. It really makes a big difference.

That's an interesting point, is it the Flour or the packet mix?

Will have to give that a go when the tesco stuff runs out.
  • I have one without the seed dispenser but I make seed bread all the time and it comes out fine - I just fire it all in at once. The only time I could see a problem is if I want to leave it on timer (would the seeds go soggy?) but not even sure if that is really something to worry about, haven't noticed any different...

I use the Lidl Bread Flour too--tried the granary bread mix but not that keen.

To those who make granary-type bread, could I ask what seeds & things you use please? My dad & I used to love a 'cob' from a bakery in the next village, that I assumed had some kind of malt in the recipe, so would like an idea of what this may be & where I could look for it. I lurve 'cod liver oil & malt'--the stuff that looks like black treacle--but don't think this is the same thing to use in bread-making :o I'm not very up on "health food" ingredients but take a good look round Julian Graves while I'm in there :rotfl:

  • I have just bought a Panasonic SD254 and have tried a couple of loaves.
They come out weird shapes (the sandwich one came out the size of a very small loaf and the fastbake one has come out a bit lob sided).
The paddle has been stuck in the bottom of one of the loaves and I have had to dig it out.
The second loaf was ok and the paddle stayed in the breadmaker but there is a hole in the loaf where the paddle was.
The bread tastes lovely but the slices are not very good for making sandwiches.
    Am I doing something wrong?
Have checked through the indexed links but can't find an answer to this problem.

  • You will always get a hole, if the paddle stays in the BM - or a paddle stuck in the bottom of the loaf as the dough bakes around the paddle.

The only alternative is to use the dough recipe and then bake the loaf in a tin in the oven.

  • I get lopsided loaves if I don't sprinkle the yeast evenly over the base of the pan.
  • The paddle hole in the bread is unavoidable (when using the full bread programme) but my Panny has never left the paddle in the bread (unlike my old Cookworks breadmaker).

Did you put the ingredients in as shown in the recipe book so the yeast first then flour etc. then the water?

There is a phone number for Panasonic in the instruction book, I'd give them a ring and have a chat they are apparently very helpful.

Clean the dried bread from in the D shaped slot in the paddle connection. There should then be a bit of play in it on the spindle. Make sure its sat well down on the spindle before use. When taking the bread out use you oven gloves to twiddle the bar underneath just a little to free the paddle from the bread (caution! hot).

If the bread is lopsided some suggestions:

    using slightly warmer water
Make sure the bread maker is level
never open the lid after kneading
use a little sugar if you are not adding any
