Can anyone please advise/help me help my friend get the IP ban lifted as this seems very unfair, they never even had an account unless friends messed around on here.0

I wasn't suggesting that your friend had posted spam or abuse, although it does seem strange.
Only Admin can sort this out I'm afraid0 -
NickX I know you werent, dont worry. This just all seems very unfair, I can only think some of my friends mates when they used the computer must have messed around on here but my friend should'nt have to suffer. My friend contacted Admin yesterday, they replied requesting the IP address and ISP and said they would look into it, as yet no reply and no ban lifted. Will they lift it does anyone know ?0

Bear in mind the techie team is very busy so I'm sure they will respond when they have time to not only look at the problem but also explain why he might have been banned.
As I used to work in IT security - one possibility might be that his machine has a virus on it and (long story short) his machine has been posting spam without his knowledge OR someone has manage to "hide" using his IP address and used this to spam or even try to launch a Denial of Service attack. That would get your IP address banned VERY quickly!
Get your friend to get a good AV software and run a complete scan of his system to make sure he's not unwittingly the cause of the problem.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
Hi emily_h
I personally haven't seen any email to abuse@ from your friend on this issue. Can you let me know the username in question either here, or via a new email to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com? Thanks.
Out of interest, if your friend is only reading the forum and not posting, they should still be able to read the forum logged out - the IP ban (i don't believe) stops that.
