You could cancel your NTL line and go back to BT.(Its recommended that you dont use Onetel Line Rental for various reasons.) If you went back to Bt you would not even have to use Onetel. You could CPS to one of the Free Evening and Weekend Suppliers mentioned on this site eg primus saver..(No smart box needed for this). Saving the 99p a month approx £12 a year, and using them in conjunction with 1899 for cheaper peak rate and mobile calls.
thanks utilitybroker
one question though
if i cancel my ntl phone line and go back to bt, i would take advantage of their free caller id deal
wouldnt i have to pay line rental for bt
like if go back to them, would i have to pay any charges becuase i just want to use onetels phonepal box
many thanks0 -
Yes if you go back to Bt they would expect you to pay for line rental,as would any other provider. You need an outgoing line for a smart box to work.0

Be careful how you program your Orchid Dialers for NGN although Onetel are cheaper for NTL and Telewest on 0845/0870 they are 10% dearer for 0844 .0

Being a Telewest customer and being stung by 1899.com's decision to charge halfpenny a minute for calls I signed up for Onetel's Total UK Talk plan £7.99(which is great for lots of calls) for new customers and ordered the service.
At the very end of the ordering process customer services apologised that they could not give me the online special offer as I am a cable customer and that the service would be £10.99 a month.
I could not find this exclusion in the FAQ's. I have written to customer services to ask why this is. Bit annoying actually.0 -
paul_h wrote:It would be interesting to know if any existing Onetel customers manage to get this offer - perhaps an email threatening to move might be the answer?
I just tried to move mine over from £3.99 to 99p by starting a fresh order. I then logged in as an existing customer and this is what I got on the next page:
LeisureUKTalk
*The plan you chose is only available to new customers at the advertised price. We have amended the monthly charge accordingly. £3.99*
I am disgusted about this and I'm now going to send an email threating to cancel all my onetel services if the new customer price is not honoured.0 -

Surely you would have to make a hell of a lot of calls to benefit from this package.?0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

You are right I make a lot of calls as I work from home.
My monthly 1899 bill averages at £14 a month - onetel's customers services replied that I could have their £7.99 offer as a cable customer which is great.
It's amazing how 1899's half a penny a minute would mount up over time.
Will be hassling telewest's service cancellation dept, freeview box etc to get my monthly bill down, I have to get into an artful dodger mood first :whistle:0 -
Update: I received an email saying I my email has been passed onto another dept and I would recieve a reply within 48 hours. No email to date. Well that deadline has long gone. So I phoned them up, got through to an indian call centre. Spoke to a woman gave detiails, had winge, she passed me through to somebody else. They said that the only way to get the rate would be to cancel and come back as a new customer. I said, "You do realise that I may not come back and during the time I am away you will lose revenue, so surely the best thing for both of us is to move me to the new rate without any more hassle"
I am now awaiting a call from a manager after further moaning.
Will keep you updated0 -
I have just changed to the OneTel 99p offer after hearing the "half a p per minute" message (NTL customer).
Just to clarify:
If I should make a call during the daytime, what would be best? To dial 1899 and get the half a p rate? do I need to unplug the Phonepal for this?
If I make a call during the daytime without doing any of this, will it just go through to NTL on their standard rate (as the 99p thing is only for evening and weekends)?
