I'm back again - almost a year to the day that I was determined to quit my gambling. I'm ashamed to say that I've fallen big time. I don't know how I've been able to justify to myself that depositing £200 a time isn't a problem - yet I panic when I have to spend over £50 in a shop.
The worst thing is - I won £600 last week - paid off my overdraft, said to myself that was it. What did I do - deposited it all back into an account and lost it. I feel stupid and sick. I'm moody, unhappy, snappy and not good company and my poor partner doesn't know why. I've admitted that I've got some financial problems but not what they are. I still have a naggimg feeling at the back of my mind that if I could "just" have one more good win - I'd be sorted. I know deep down that won't happen because I'll just throw it all away (I won £2k in October - lost it and a lot more since). This can't go on - but how can I pay off my debts?[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
I know you have probably heard this before but you can get software that stops you accessing gambling sites, that would be a first step?
The one big win is a myth when you are addicted. You know you are in the right place, the amazing things people achieve in beating their addiction are here in black and white. You can do that too.
Then its work out who you owe what too and go from there. One step at time, its how anyone does anything.

I how you feel Copperjar.
I am in debt due to gambling. I won a few hundred in early nov, so got back into the gambling saddle! I deposited £50 and turned it into over £4000. But the temptation was too much and gambled it all away before the Casino site had returned it to my card. I have probably lost another £500 of my own money since.
For the first time I actualy got emotional about it. To see over £4000 in my bankroll and know how that amount could change my life and then to gamble it is realy bitter. Since then I have won £500 and £1500 only to regamble and lose it all.
I have put the bet filter free trial on the laptop to stop me gambling further. It runs out in 8 days, hopfully this should be long enough to save enough cash to pay for the Betfilter softare for one year. I just cant trust myself.
I cant get the image of seeing thousands in my bankroll out of my head. The temptation to deposit cash on Blackjack is So SO SO strong.
Try the bet filter software, Best of Luck
p.s. Sorry about the underlining, laptops playing up.

Hi Copperjar, welcome back. I'm sure last year we advised you put a block on your computer. Do it now... You can pay off your debts, slowly, at a rate you can afford. By gambling they will only get bigger. By not gambling they will decrease.
It doesnt matter how much you win, it will never be enough. If you won enough to clear your debts i guarantee you'd want to win a bit more to treat yourself, buy a new car, etc.... i know, i've been there. If i won £30,000 i wanted £30,001...
I cant stop when i'm winning and i can't stop when i'm losing. It took me a long time to accept that i just can't win either way.
Jimbo, getting emotional is a normal feeling. If you have someone else at home that knows your problem ask them to install K9 software and just block gambling. They can choose a password and its free. It doesnt ever run out unless the person with the password unblocks it.
Why leave temptation there? i dont trust myself even over 3 years since my last bet. I know i have a problem so i do everything i can to safeguard myself.
I wish you both success. Have a read through this whole thread as a sort of therapy xxLast bet : 26th Oct 2006:j Debt free 25th Feb 2008:j Living "my" dream:T0 -
copperjar - welcome back and well done admitting you have a problem. the solution starts here. you wont get better advice than what cantcope has just given you. youre like the rest of us, we cant win and if we did it would only be a matter of time before we lost. get the software installed and get over to the debt free wannabe threads, theres plenty of practical advice for dealing with your debts on there.
just take it 1 day at a time, every day you dont gamble is another day youre not getting into more debt.
i was the same as you £7000 in debt, panicking, realising that the debt had to go because my OH couldnt know about it, 48 hrs later it was close to £20,000. thats how easy it is to get into more and more debt.0
